Helensburgh Lifeboat station extends heartfelt condolences to our fellow search and rescue colleagues at Marine Rescue NSW, following the tragic incident in Ballina, Australia.

The loss of their two volunteers is felt on a global scale and is a sobering reminder of the immense danger search and rescue volunteers face every day at sea. We recognise the profound impact tragedies like this have on families, crews and communities. Our thoughts are with them all.

We honour the courage, commitment and selflessness of those involved, and of everyone who dedicates their lives to saving lives at sea. They will not be forgotten. Fair winds and following seas đź’™

It has been a busy few days for Helensburgh lifeboat crew.

HM Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat at about 5.30 pm on Sunday afternoon to assist a 28 ft blue hulled yacht in difficulty off Ferguson Ship Builders, Port Glasgow. The yacht was reported to be going round in circles with one person on board.

The lifeboat towed the yacht to its mooring at Cardwell Bay where the yachtsman was happy to return ashore by dinghy.

The lifeboat returned to the station and was ready for service at 7.15 pm.

Our volunteer crew is on call 24/7/365 days a year to save lives at sea. Your donations help us provide essential training, equipment and maintain the lifeboat.

On Friday night Helensburgh lifeboat was called out for the second time in the week.

HM Costguard requested the launch of the lifeboat just before 11.00 pm to assist in locating a boat with an activated EPIRB. It was believed to be a fishing boat off Port Glasgow.

The owner of the boat was traced and found to be safe and well. The EPIRB had been inadvertently activated. The lifeboat returned to the station and was refuelled and ready for service at 1.00am.

If you see anyone in difficulty on the water call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Help us to save lives at sea.
