New friendships and connections are constantly being made here at the Hub - volunteering is such a win win!

It's Volunteers Week Scotland - did you know that the total social value of formal weekly volunteering in Scotland is £530 million! (Volunteer Scotland - March 2025)
Part of that huge figure has been generated by our fabulous Hub volunteers - we have more than 40 active volunteers who help in the Book Nook, run crafting, yoga and Qigong sessions, support events like beach cleans and coffee mornings, fix things at the monthly Helensburgh repair Hub and not forgetting our Trustees who oversee the running of the organisation.
Thank you!

Community councils provide a very worthwhile role as part of local democracy but often they aren’t very well understood or valued. It’s a genuine opportunity to make your voice heard and raise issues that matter to you - which has got to be more positive than moaning on social media!

In Helensburgh we are looking for 10 nominations. We meet monthly on the last Thursday of the month 7pm at the Civic Centre. Outside of the meetings we arrange monthly beach cleans, look after the beds in Colquhoun Square, and report any infrastructure issues to the council. Our key role is to represent the views of the community especially in planning but also in other discussions with the Council or other organisations. We are all volunteers and have different interests and skills, we share the work between us, meaning the time commitment can be flexible.

It's Volunteers Week Scotland so every day this week we will be highlighting why volunteering is so great!
To start off here are a few thoughts from our fabulous team at Helensburgh Community Hub...
"I enjoy meeting people and sharing my skills"
"It's a lovely silly support group"
"I like making new friendships and connections"
"It gets you out of the house and talking to like-minded people"
"I like supporting our community"
(the photo is me telling our volunteers how much I love them!)
