🌼Recent Adventures at our Calder Valley Woodland School 🌼

🐝We've continued our exploration of the elements at our weekly home education group, Calder Valley Woodland School, this half term. The children and young people created incredible bee art using different mediums, and we celebrated these fascinating insects by making our own dandelion 'honey'.

🪺We also had a focus on birds, nests, and eggs, delving into wildlife and ecology as well as games, stories, and crafts.

🦋This coming half term we'll be honing in on the wonderful world of insects, exploring the creatures that share our woodland habitat. We'll also be continuing to develop bushcraft and outdoor skills, and making plenty of time for play, creativity, and relaxation at our beautiful woodland site.

SPACES CURRENTLY AVAILABLE: Children are welcome to join us for a 'Taster Day' to meet the leaders and group, and find out what woodland school is all about. Get in touch via valleywoodlandschool@gmail to find out more or arrange a session.

✨FORAGE with us this Sunday 31st - 3 TICKETS AVAILABLE✨

We've had a wonderful time on recent foraging courses, exploring the season's edible abundance in woodland, hedgerow, and meadow.

🌼From wild flower truffles to feral kimchi, our recent group enjoyed a range of tasters, and snacked on delicious wild leaves as we wandered along the paths of the bluebell wood.

🍄A highlight was discovering this incredibly fresh, bright chicken of the woods mushroom on an old oak tree! The group cooked it up over the fire along with hogweed shoots, wild crisps, and ramson pesto. It was our first chicken of the woods of 2026... and it was delicious!

☘Book the final tickets for this Sunday 31st May, or to join us on a Foraging Taster Session Wednesday 3 June, here: https://www.livewild.org.uk/courses/foraging-courses-west-yorkshire/

🌱FORAGING IN THE BLUEBELL WOOD🌱

We had a wonderful day of spring foraging with a recent group, celebrating the Calderdale tradition of making 'dock pudding' by cooking up our own version over the fire. Our woodland basecamp was surrounded by bluebells, and the air smelled so sweet!

With the hedgerows bursting to life, we found an array of tasty edibles and there was much laughter and joy at this beautiful time of year amongst the flowers and blossom.

Thanks to all who came along and made it such a fun, joyful day 🌞
