Monday’s Business Essentials networking meeting focussed on helping HX7 business owner tackle some of the less glamorous, but really important stuff - HR, tax, business support and how to dig deep when the going gets tough!

A group of local business owners got together for a friendly, supportive session at one of our member’s venues with expert speakers sharing advice and resources to help us navigate through some of these challenges.

👉Sarah Paverley, an HR professional working with SMEs shared top tips for fair and efficient recruitment of new staff, good practice for managing absence and explained the important changes to employment legislation that will come in during 2026 and 2027.

👉Richard Fitton from Fitton & Co accountants walked us through the new Making Tax Digital process and explained the steps sole traders and landlords need to take to complete quarterly returns with digital bookkeeping.

👉Andrea Campbell of Root & Rise Coaching shared her personal journey and challenges faced in setting up her coaching business and how she’s channeled this into research on living with uncertainty and supporting others to build resilience.

👉Martin Ross from Calderdale Council’s Business, Employment and Skills team introduced us to the suite of support available through Calderdale and WYCA for businesses, from starting out to scaling up and growing.

Huge thanks to all our speakers for generously giving their time and wisdom, to Paula and Simon at for their fab venue, and to all the attendees for sharing their perspectives and questions, making it a brilliant evening of mutual support for small businesses.

Want to hear about our next event for HX7 businesses? They’re free for members so head to our website for more info and to sign up … let’s support one another ♥️

Meet a Member Monday

This week we’re shining a light on IOU Creation Centre and the wonderfully unique - Yorkshire’s only independent self-catering vegetarian hostel.

Offering contemporary, comfortable accommodation across 14 ensuite rooms, IOU Hostel is much more than a place to stay. Surrounded by beautiful woodland, gardens, a private wildflower meadow that local star helped design and a sun trap of a terrace, it’s a peaceful retreat in the heart of our vibrant town and perfectly placed for exploring the Pennine Way and beyond.

Guests can choose from private ensuite rooms, budget-friendly dorm beds, a wheelchair-accessible double room, or even hire the whole hostel for groups, retreats, conferences, schools and community organisations.

What makes IOU Hostel truly special is its creative spirit. Managed by arts charity IOU Creation Centre, the hostel is also home to exhibitions, workshops, retreats and an Artist in Residence programme, creating opportunities for visitors to connect with creativity as well as the landscape around them.

A hostel with a difference, where art, nature and community come together.

Have you discovered this hidden gem in Hebden Bridge?

Give them a follow and show some local love.

Meet a Member Monday

This week we’re shining a light on the wonderful Bryony and team at

Nestled away in Linden Mill, Bryony has created a calm, welcoming space where movement, wellbeing and community come together beautifully. As Hebden Bridge’s first fully equipped Pilates studio, The Bridge offers expertly led mat and reformer Pilates classes, alongside pre and post-natal sessions, 1-2-1 tuition and wellbeing workshops.

With a background in dance and years of Pilates training and teaching, Bryony is passionate about helping people move better, feel stronger and reconnect with their bodies in a supportive, nurturing environment. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned Pilates devotee, there’s something for everyone here.

And honestly… those rolling Calder Valley views from the studio? Instant exhale.

If your body’s been whispering “please stretch me” after too much desk time, gardening, dog walking or life in general… this might just be your sign.

Give them a follow and show some local love.
