Hello everyone. We are going to be holding three volunteer days at a site near Ogden Water on Friday the 9th, Friday the 16th and Saturday the 24th of October. As you can see from the photos the site has had a lot of damage from animal grazing and strong winds. We are asking for help to clear up the plastic tubes from the trees that have failed and to re-stake any of the surviving trees that have been kocked or blown over. We will also be holding some more volunteer days later in the winter season to re-plant 2,000 trees using the old tubes we've collected. I'll let you know about these as soon as dates are confirmed.

We're very pleased to see that our newly planted hedgerow and woodland below Stoodley Pike has survived the very hot summer. We planted over 5.5 acres of new woodland and 3.5km of hedgerow and we're now installing 3.3km of fencing to protect the trees and hedge from grazing deer and sheep. Once established this network of hedges and woodland will help create wildlife corridors across the hillside. Most of Calderdale's woodlands are confined to the steep valley sides making this project in an upland area a crucial habitat that connects the upper moorlands with the valleys below.

Forus Tree have just dropped off another batch of used plastic tree guards to the Tubex recycling scheme in Skipton. We are pleased to announce that all of our tree and hedgerow guards will now be recyclable helping to create a circular economy and minimising the need for new plastics to enter the system.

Hello everyone.

We are going to be having a volunteer day this Friday, 3rd July, near Ogden Water. We'll be doing some maintenance work on a site we planted six years ago. It will entail re-staking and re-attaching the guards and removing some stakes and guards that are no longer required. The ground is quite rough so please wear suitable footwear and waterproofs and sun cream are advised. Please also bring your own pack lunch and water. Another tree and hedgerow planting site just finished high up on Kebs Road above Cornholme. A truly beautiful area when you can see more than a few meters in front of you through the fog! We've planted 200 trees, 375m of hedgerow and put some stock fencing up where necessary to keep the sheep off. We have decided not to use plastic spirals on our hedge plants on this site and are trying to move away from using any non-recyclable plastics in the future. Due to this sites exposed location and a lot of the hedge being double fenced we believe spirals weren't necessary however this will need monitoring and if there is extensive damage from deer or rabbits we may have to fit some protection at a later date.

The team have now finished the tree and hedgerow planting in Cragg Vale with over 900m of hedge, 300 trees and some willow revetments adding up to a total of 6,150 trees planted. The project was designed primarily as a natural flood management scheme with cross contour hedging, willow revetments and wider catchment area woodland all helping to reduce flooding. However there are many other benefits to wildlife and the environment from the wide selection of native plants used across the site.

A big thank you from the Forus Tree team to the amazing Suma volunteers who came out to help plant over 200 trees and 130m of hedgerow last week. The work is part of a natural flood management scheme in the Cragg Vale area which when completed will have 905m of hedgerow, 300 trees and several willow revetments. These have all been designed to slow the flow of water into the nearby stream which reduces the stress on our waterways during heavy rainfall and ultimately reduces the risk of flooding in the valley.
