South Tyneside Young Carers

Today, as a service, we celebrate the amazing Trace and the life she lived.

Trace was incredibly proud to be part of South Tyneside Young Carers and deeply cared about the families she worked with. She consistently went above and beyond to support them, building genuine connections and lasting friendships along the way. She was caring, thoughtful and had a wonderful bubbly nature that made anyone feel comfortable and at ease. Trace loved curry nights with families, couldn’t say no to a game of bowling or bingo and was always the first one laughing at the pantomimes. Her laugh was loud, infectious, and uniquely hers.

Trace was a much-loved member of our team whose kindness, dedication, and compassion touched the lives of so many families. She took the role of “adopted Mam” in our team. And would always make sure we were okay, whether it be giving really good advice, making sure we eat or just giving the best hugs when we needed them. She will be remembered fondly and greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her.

Thoughts go out to her family and friends at this difficult time.

Did you know we have an alliance with Warhammer and Games workshop!?

Warhammer is the world's most popular sci-fy/ fantasy miniature wargame. Building and painting can have therapeutic benefits as well as increasing creativity and community. Once a month Young Carers will have their own session with Gary from Games workshop South Shields to build paint and play with Warhammer armies. Whether you are a beginner or an expert the session is yours to make the most of.

First session is June 26th. If you are interested in putting your name down or finding out more, reach out to Katherine.

Today we attended the commitment to unpaid carers event. Alongside other services in the region and carers themselves, we shared our stories and our pledge towards building a high quality standard of support across the whole region of North east and Cumbria.
The event covered four main priorities for services to aim towards and acheive in order to benefit unpaid carers.

These priorites were:
1. Awareness and recognition of carers
2.Funding to reflect carer needs and reduce inequalities.
3. Embedding carer involvement in co-production in policy and strategy.
4. Streamlined support across the system.

"As a young adult carer, studying and working in different cities, all services, locally and worldwide need to be united."

As a young carer service, we couldn't agree more. With this in mind the future for our young carers is a positive one. Together we can be stronger and be better.

🧡 Celebrating All Carers This Carers Week 🧡

Every year carers week raises awareness of the challenges unpaid carers have to face, and the amazing impact they have in our communities.

We want to take the opportunity to shine a light on all carers and celebrate the amazing people they are.

Throughout June we have activities, school drop ins, and coffee mornings for young carers, young adult carers and their families. Connecting with our service and others with similar circumstances helps build a community of support and understanding.

Here is our May Half term reel commentated by Joseph and John. 😂 🎤

Young carers had a busy week shooting nerf guns and ducks 🐤, bowling, a family trip to holmside park, building lego, playing scooter hookey, throwing dodgeballs at Katherine and Jayne, stroking furless cats and eating spicy chicken 😋.

We have had a lovely week relaxing and blowing off steam, we hope you had a lovely week too!
