𝑮𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌! 🧡

Today, our Polegate group completed their mock interviews, taking another important step towards employment! At Wealden Works, we aim to make this experience as realistic as possible, from receiving official interview invitations to sitting down with an interviewer and putting their skills into practice. These opportunities help our young people build confidence, prepare for the real thing and recognise just how much they have to offer future employers.

A huge thank you to our board member, Sally Frost, for giving up her time to conduct the interviews and help make this such a valuable experience for our group. 👏

A massive well done to all our young people who absolutely smashed their interviews today! You should be incredibly proud of yourselves. 🌟

At Wealden Works, it's all about building confidence, developing skills and bridging the gap between education and employment 🧡

🗣️ 𝒀𝑶𝑼𝑵𝑮 𝑷𝑬𝑶𝑷𝑳𝑬, 𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑳 𝑽𝑶𝑰𝑪𝑬𝑺 🗣️

At Wealden Works, the voices of our young people are at the heart of everything we do. Each week, we’re sharing a little insight into their experiences, the progress they’ve made and how being part of Wealden Works has supported them on their journey. This week we hear from Khyan Andrews who secured a job at Kennedy Brothers after support with Wealden Works.

We recently visited Khyan at his workplace, Kennedy Brothers, to hear first-hand how far he has come since completing our course. Khyan’s journey is a fantastic example of what can happen when young people are supported to take opportunities and explore their potential.

Here’s what Khyan had to say about his journey with Wealden Works on our recent visit to his workplace.

💬 “I dropped out of college because my plan was to find a job. That took a lot longer than expected. I was fed up with it; it was taking too long. I found Wealden Works, so I joined that course. Now I’m working at Kennedy Brothers after they set me up with them. I do car valeting, so cars will come in for sales and I get them cleaned and ready to sell. I originally wanted to start my own business doing exterior cleaning, but since being here, I’ve enjoyed it a lot more than I expected, so now I’m starting my own business doing car detailing. Since I started working here, I’m a lot more active and doing things every day, which has helped my wellbeing. Since leaving Wealden Works, I feel a lot more positive about my future.”

Stories like Khyan’s remind us why we do what we do. Every young person’s journey is different, and sometimes all it takes is the right support, encouragement and opportunity to help them see what’s possible. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Khyan! 🙌

✨ 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒃𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒐𝒘𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔! ✨

A huge thank you to Ben and Amy from Rage X-Treme in Polegate for visiting our Polegate group at Wealden Works! As the successful owners of Rage X-Treme, a popular rage room experience in Polegate, Ben and Amy shared valuable insight into what it takes to run a business and build success.

Ben and Amy spent time sitting down with our young people to share their journeys into business ownership, offering a raw, honest and inspiring insight into how they got to where they are today.

Hearing about their individual experiences showed our young people that there’s no single path to success, and that everyone’s journey is different.

Opportunities like this give our young people the chance to hear real-life experiences, ask questions and see what’s possible for their own futures. Having local business owners share their stories can make a genuine difference to their confidence, aspirations and understanding of the world of work.

Thank you Ben and Amy for giving up your time and being so open with our group. It really does make a difference! 🧡

This week we hear from Thomas Bonnick who secured a job at Black Label Grading after support with Wealden Works.

💬 “I was home-educated and 17 when I came to Wealden Works, with no exam results, no work history and no idea where to start. Tora and Lisa helped me put a CV together and, more than that, were properly in my corner. They told me to volunteer at Oxfam, so I did. They found me a part-time job at a local retail shop. Then, while I was working there and teaching myself my GCSEs at the same time, they told me a local business, Black Label Grading, was looking for someone. I had to turn it down to focus on my exams. The day I sat my last one, Tora asked if I could meet the owner that same day. I did, got a work trial, and started in May 2025 as an administrator. I'm 20 now and their Senior Operations Executive, running the processing for over 3,000 cards a month and training new staff. Since then I've created the company's new website, and outside work I designed and launched my own app, Todoku (todoku.app). None of that happens without two people who kept the door open while I finished my exams. I'd recommend Wealden Works to any young person who feels stuck on where to start.”

What an incredible transformation, from having no clear direction to building an amazing career and creating opportunities of their own.

We think it’s so important to give our young people a platform to share their experiences in their own words. Hearing directly from them reminds us why the work we do matters and allows others to see the real difference that support, encouragement and opportunities can make. ❤️

🗣️ 𝙔𝙊𝙐𝙉𝙂 𝙋𝙀𝙊𝙋𝙇𝙀, 𝙍𝙀𝘼𝙇 𝙑𝙊𝙄𝘾𝙀𝙎 🗣️

At Wealden Works, the voices of our young people are at the heart of everything we do. Each week, we’re sharing a little insight into their experiences, the progress they’ve made and how being part of Wealden Works has supported them on their journey. This week, we hear from Marc Twinn, who secured an exciting role with Disney Cruise Line following support from Wealden Works.

💬 “Wealden Works provided me with the resources and environment to ground myself after months of rejection and strategize effectively to get my dream job. Coming out of a top global university with a first-class honours and real-world business experience, I assumed getting a job would take 2-3 months maximum: it took 7. The reality of rejections piling up day after day took not only a financial impact but a psychological one as well, feeling as though I was in a free-fall. Wealden Works took me in with kindness and enthusiasm, without judgement, with the sole purpose of working with me to figure out the next best move. They brought in experts who developed skills that didn’t just develop me as an employee, but as a person. They connected me with experts from different areas, including people related to my dream job. With a steady foundation and the right connections, Wealden Works guided me through to applying to a job with Disney Cruise Line as one of their live entertainers and landing this job with ease. Both practically and psychologically, Wealden Works was there for me in a bleak time, and a year later I feel like my life has done a 180”

Marc's story is a fantastic example of what can happen when talent meets opportunity. It shows the power of networking, the importance of taking that first step, and what can be achieved when you have the confidence to reach out.

We think it’s so important to give our young people a platform to share their experiences in their own words. Hearing directly from them reminds us why the work we do matters and allows others to see the real difference that support, encouragement and opportunities can make. ❤️

Each week, we’re sharing a little insight into their experiences, the progress they’ve made and how being part of Wealden Works has supported them on their journey. This week we hear from Eloise Chandler who secured a job at Nuffield Health after support with Wealden Works.

💬 “After finishing my A-levels, I felt unsure about my next steps and overwhelmed about where to start looking for jobs and how to secure a full time position. Tora and Lisa from Wealden Works took the time to understand my interests, helped reassure me and connected me with Nuffield Health Tunbridge Wells. Thanks to their support, I secured an interview and was offered a role as an Inpatients Booking Coordinator within just a few weeks. I'm now happy, confident, and excited about my future! I'd highly recommend Wealden Works to any young person looking for guidance with their next steps”
