GREAT NEWS & A HEARTFELT FAREWELL
From Colin, Founder of Computers for Kids (Community for Kids)
Dear friends, supporters, and community,
As many of you know, we were on the verge of closing our Sussex-based service due to rising costs and financial strain. It’s been an incredibly difficult time — but today, I have some truly hopeful news to share.
I’m overjoyed to announce that Computers for Kids will continue. Jack Nye, owner of the J Nye Group, will be taking over ownership of our nonprofit by the end of this month. Jack shares my passion for giving back and believes deeply in the mission we’ve built together.
Founding this project has been one of the greatest honors of my life. We’ve helped thousands of children across Sussex — providing them with access, opportunity, and a real chance to thrive in a digital world. Watching this community come together to support something bigger than all of us has been nothing short of inspiring.
What many don’t know is that, over the past year, I’ve been facing personal challenges, including a period of homelessness. Despite that, I gave everything I had — financially and emotionally — to keep this service alive. I stopped taking a salary nearly two years ago and committed myself full-time to this cause, holding on with all I had.
But now, it’s time for me to step back and begin rebuilding my own life. It’s a difficult decision, but I’m comforted by knowing the future of Computers for Kids is in good hands.
This service has been my heart. Besides being a proud father, this is the thing I am most proud of — because it’s made a real, tangible difference in people’s lives.
Though I’ll no longer be at the helm, I’ll be working closely with Jack during this transition, introducing him to our partners and offering whatever support I can to ensure a smooth handover.
Please join me in welcoming Jack Nye with open arms. He’s stepping into a role that is as challenging as it is meaningful, and your continued support will be vital as he begins this new chapter.
Thank you for allowing me to serve this beautiful community. I have no doubt I’ll return in the future — with new energy, fresh ideas, and always, a commitment to making a difference.
With love and gratitude,
Colin
