Sophie may have been small, but she filled her home with an enormous personality. Today, her Forever Foster mum Lucia shares some special memories of a cat who was truly one of a kind.
‘Sophie came to us in 2019 and, as my first cat, she certainly wasn't what you'd call a wallflower!
Already in her senior years when she arrived, Sophie had a wonderfully strong personality. She knew exactly what she liked and what she didn't, and she was never shy about letting us know. Grooming sessions had to be done to Sophie's exact standards, something my husband learned very quickly!
It's hard to believe such a tiny cat could have such a huge character. Belly rubs were out of the question and being picked up was generally met with disapproval. But beneath all her opinions was a deep affection, shown in the moments she curled up on my lap, greeted me with a head bump, or sat blinking at me from across the room.
And just when we thought she was slowing down, she'd surprise us with the most unexpected zoomies, as though she'd forgotten she was supposed to be an old lady.
In her later years, Sophie developed hyperthyroidism and kidney disease, but with a few adjustments she continued to enjoy life and even impressed the vets with how well she was doing.
This spring, we said goodbye to Sophie at home. Losing her has been incredibly sad, but I'm so grateful to The Cinnamon Trust for giving me the opportunity to foster her for life. Sophie taught me so much, and I'll always treasure the years we shared.
Farewell, Sophie.'
Thank you, Lucia, for being such a devoted Forever Foster mum to Sophie; you gave her the love, comfort and security she deserved in her later years. Lucia’s story is a beautiful reminder of the difference Forever Foster homes make. 🧡
