Hello and welcome to Hayle Community Food Cupboard and Food Share! We are delighted to be launching our brand-new page!
Hayle Community Food Cupboard started, as many food share initiatives did, during the COVID Lockdowns, when members of the community came together, in time of need and in direct response to reducing food waste.
Fast forward some years later and we are still going strong! We have two, well-stocked community food cupboards, one in Copperhouse outside Phillack Church Hall and one in Foundry, next to the Royal Mail sorting office, which are filled daily, by our volunteers with food that we save from local supermarkets, via our partnerships with https://www.neighbourly.com , Fairshare and other generous local businesses.
We work alongside our friends at https://devonandcornwallfoodaction.org who regularly bring affordable food parcels down to families in West Cornwall.
We stock the cupboards with a wonderful range of fresh, seasonal, produce, grown right here in Cornwall, courtesy of our friends at the https://gleaningcornwall.org.uk. Hard-working volunteers who go out in all weathers, throughout the year, to glean unharvested leftover vegetables and fruit, with kind permission from farmers and growers, saving it from being ploughed back into the fields or wasted.
Fortunate also to be supported independently by Lidls, Marks & Spencers, Aldi, Sainsburys and the Hayle Town Council, every year we are able to deliver a fantastic BIG Christmas Foodshare in partnership with volunteers from the Hayle Foodbank, volunteers from Phillack Church who run the Community Cafe in Cppoerhouse, Volunteer Cornwall, Bodriggy Health Centre and Hayle Town Council, hosted very graciously and generously over two weeks in Phillack Church Hall.
So, now you know a little bit about us! 😊😊 Please spread the word, and help us to prevent food waste!
We have some very, very exciting news coming really soon, so watch this space!
