Today, on International Nurses Day, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to all the incredible nurses across Harlington Hospice and Michael Sobell House. 💙

Hospice nursing is about so much more than clinical care. It is about listening, reassuring, supporting, comforting and standing beside people and their families through some of life’s most difficult moments.

Every day, our nurses bring compassion, skill and humanity to the care they provide, helping people live as fully and comfortably as possible.

Whether supporting patients on our inpatient unit, in the community, through rehabilitation or alongside families and carers, their dedication makes an extraordinary difference.

To every one of our nurses: thank you for the care, kindness and dignity you bring to our hospice community every single day.

As Dying Matters Week comes to a close, we wanted to share this thoughtful video created by Kelvin Yen, a student from Brunel University who recently spent time with our team at Michael Sobell House.

The film explores an important message: hospice and palliative care are not simply about the final days of life. They are about helping people live as well as possible, with comfort, dignity, choice and compassionate support at every stage of illness.

This year’s Dying Matters Week theme, Let’s Talk About Death and Dying, has encouraged open conversations around death, grief and end of life care. We hope this video helps challenge misconceptions and highlights the personalised, holistic support hospices provide to patients and families every day.
Because hospice care is not about giving up. It is about understanding what matters most.

Talking about death and dying isn’t easy, but it matters.

This Dying Matters Week, led by Hospice UK, we’re encouraging open and honest conversations about death, dying and bereavement.

This year’s theme, Let’s Talk About Death and Dying, highlights just how important these conversations are. Research shows that 27% of people struggle to talk about death with loved ones, while 30% keep their feelings bottled up, making grief and planning even harder.

Throughout the week, we’ll have a stand in reception where you can share your thoughts using our speech bubbles, reflect, and start conversations in a supportive environment.

Whether it’s sharing experiences, asking questions or simply listening, every conversation counts.

Let’s break the stigma together.
