At A.A.A. we help people move away from their addiction by providing them with an alternative means of finding meaning to their life. Without even realising it, a lot of people have got the same reason for having an addiction – because they don’t know of any other way to live. It is our method to provide them with other activities/goals to gently steer them in t
he direction of achieving what they want in life. Allowing them to full fill goals they didn’t believe were achievable. We intend to do this through basic, rewarding, fun activity. Not through “group work” but through one to one “shadowing” or in fact through helping your friend. but just us. These activities may include cycling, cycle maintenance, woodwork, gardening, basic DIY, cooking, computers, or basically what the friend wants to do until they have built up their confidence that they can survive without the need of their addiction. However since activity is not enough to satisfy a person, we will go on to help them improve all areas of their lives. Whether this needs to be through improving their accomodation, physical health or their life style we will work with them to help them get whatever they need. Rather than passing them on to other agencies we will provide continuity throughout their recovery. Since a lot of “addicts” have very few prospects of gaining skills or employment, we intend to help each friend, to gain new skills and if they so wish to move on to employment with A.A.A.
