Young Teries Future Champions Awards

Young Teries Future Champions Awards The programme has been developed to support and help fast-track young sporting talent from Hawick, the potential medal winners of the future.

The YOUNG TERIES Future Champions Awards plan to become a five-year programme funded by Langholm based charities which have strong Hawick connections and local group, Hawick Sings, to be delivered and administered in partnership with Future Hawick. The programme is a unique partnership with schools and sports clubs and is designed to cater for young athletes who live in Hawick and the surrounding

area, who are in education or the early stages of their career/employment and have the ambition to fulfil their sporting potential. The programme aims to reduce the drop-out of talented athletes from sport due to academic and financial pressures as to reach the top often requires a lot of time spent travelling to Edinburgh or Glasgow or even further afield.

Young Teries Future Champions award winner Oliver McCraw had a brilliant outing at the Scottish Athletics Championships at the Emirates Arena recently, despite only recently recovering from an ankle fracture!

With no expectations heading into the event, Oliver delivered a standout performance, setting new U15 Scottish PB records in both the 60m and 200m, which was a brilliant achievement on the national stage. He also came away with medals to make it even better!

🥊 Young Teries Future Champions Award winner Rosie Swailes has been continuing to make great progress in boxing!

Since our awards night in the Autumn of 2024, Rosie won gold at the Winter Women’s Box Cup, securing victory with a first-round stoppage against Layla Kelly.

She also headed to Sweden to compete in the prestigious Golden Girl Championships. Rosie won her first bout unanimously against Sabine Vochova before facing a tough opponent in Jaya Kalsi. Rosie missed out on the win but went on to gain even more experience by sparring with other talented boxers despite being out of the competition!

Adding to her list of achievements, Rosie claimed her second Scottish Golden Gloves Championship title at (54kg 2009 category) at Ravenscraig Sports Centre!

Rosie was also selected to attend a sparring camp at the Sport Wales National Centre in February, giving her a great opportunity to further develop her skills!

Fantastic effort, Rosie - keep up the hard work! 🌟

In December, at the British Indoor Championships, she competed in the under 18s category up against the best in Britain. This was her first British competition and she scored 465 out of 600 and placed 15th out of 19. Sarah says she was very nervous, but learnt a lot from the experience.

Then at the weekend just past, Sarah competed at Balbardie in Bathgate. She competed in Under 21s, shooting 2 rounds and managing a personal best score of 445. Sarah placed 3rd overall!

In the near future, Sarah will be competing at Bannockburn and East Kilbride before her attention moves to the outdoor season at St Andrews on the 5th April.

Great effort and thanks for the update, Sarah! 🌟
