Last weekend, the Pembrokeshire Prospectors were asked to search for a champion sheepdog trainer’s dog whistle. Stan lost the whistle nearly two years ago in a field near Jameston, Pembrokeshire, and despite a thorough search, it could not be found.
Stan had really missed the whistle. His dogs were highly trained to its specific sound, so he’d had to retrain them to respond to a new one.On a beautiful day, 24 of us searched in vain.
It was nearing home time when our chairman, Alan Howell, on his way back to the car, decided to dig one last hole after hearing a strong signal. Up popped the titanium whistle, looking as if it had been dropped yesterday. Stan cleared out the mud and was delighted to hear the sound of his precious whistle for the first time in nearly two years.
