As we only work/volunteer 1 day a week, many of our projects seem to takes weeks and so we often have little in the way of new project photos etc - as you may have noticed.
Today was a prime example - Mike and Melo continued cleaning the old paint off a signal post and putting rust convertor on it. Prior to "red leading" it next week and painting it black over the following couple of "weeks".
I continued sanding and priming the signal arm.
Robert continued one of his favourite jobs - weeding around his beloved Margaret.
Richard missed out on the fun due to illness.

The green barn was full of displays and representatives for an event put on for carers, would-be carers, and those being cared for.
As you can see, we put scaffolding up around the 2nd signal post to clean it and repaint it. Mike and Melo removed the signal arm for me to clean and paint.
While Melo then used an electric wire brush to scrape the old paint off the top of the post, Mike joined Robert in the unending task of weeding the station area.
Richard van Gogh continued restoration work on Margaret's rear-end and started painting her GWR green.
At the end of the day, Melo was ready to be hosed clean after several hours up on the scaffolding removing dirt, rust and black paint.
More of the same next week.

So much for the hot weather of last week - which was good for half-term visitors. We're back to Pembs spring/autumn/summer weather this week.
More rust treatment work was carried out on Margret, including hole filling and smoothing prior to repainting.
The first signal post is now finished and looks resplendent in its new paintwork and with a replacement wooden platform up on high. It looks great.
Some thorough weeding has cleaned up the site around Margaret and the signal box.

In view of the very hot weather and it being half-term for the schools, we only worked for a short time today. Melo prepared some wooden pieces to go up on the "crows nest" platforms on the signal posts. While I finished painting another coat on the signal arm.
A couple of hours later we were home in time for a prolonged thunderstorm and heavy cloudburst.
Fingers crossed and weather permitting, we should finish the signals next week.
What then????

The railway signals preservation project continued today. Mike and Melo finished a second paint coat on the 1st post and moved on to start on the 2nd one.
The signal arm for the 1st post has been painted and should hopefully be reinstated shortly.
Robert carried on with his weeding and tidying around the signal box and Margaret. A job he likes to do.
Richard was cutting and treating wood to fit on to the signals' crows' nest platforms.
The Allen Scythe blades were also painted.

The multi projects work continued this week.
Robert got back close to nature doing more weeding around the signal box. Something he likes doing as it's close to Margaret and the station. He prefers it to de-spider webbing the signal box.
Richard, and Melo later, carried on rubbing Margaret's to get her ready for some cosmetic painting.
Mike and Melo painted a signal post black. It looks really good glistening in the sunshine.
I painted the signal arm that will go back on the post shortly.
Expect more of the same next week.

A day of mixed projects underway with the team. Mike and Melo red leaded one of the signal posts. You can see how well it now stands out. It will however be painted black shortly - weather permitting. The other post will get similar treatment too.
Robert chose to do some cleaning and spiders' web removal around the signal box, before cracking on with some weeding around his beloved engine.
Before the rain arrived, Richard and Melo managed to sand down the filler input last week on the back of Margaret's cab.
Meanwhile in the workshop, Mike primed the railway signal arm. I painted this gold ticket machine and primed the set of 4 blades for the Allen Scythe.

Glorious sunshine today, so we were all working outside. A lovely day for a visit to Scolton for a quiet walk and play. As long as you kept away from the grass mowing, the electric grinder Melo used on the signal posts, and me hammering and scraping.

I worked on straightening, cleaning, sanding and rust protecting a signal arm. It'll be painted over the next couple of weeks while the signal post is also repainted.

Richard helped me a bit and then cracked on with filling holes in the back of Margaret.

Melo and Mike used scaffolding to finish cleaning and rust protecting the signal posts.

It was nice enough for us to have lunch on the station platform - while boss Mark told us all about the sewage system within the grounds.

For those interested - this signal arm is a Distant Signal: Painted yellow with a notched or "V-shaped" end. It acts as an advance warning for the next home signal, indicating caution (horizontal) or clear (inclined).

Well, a morning of April showers/rain kept us indoors again. So Richard continued working on the varda doors, Melo gave the horse drawn fire "engine" some needed woodwork treatment before he and Mike had a look at what work needs doing in the signal box so that it can be opened to the public again.
Mike and I had a good sort out and tidy up in the workshop. Robert cleaned and prepped some metal blades for the Allen Scythe we have on display.
Then we stacked some of the scaffolding we hope to use in the next couple of weeks to work on the railway signals. Richard and Robert are hoping for sun next Weds, so they can do some repair work to Margaret.
