Final Straw Foundation Restoring, educating, and protecting. We empower communities to defend our oceans from plastic pollution๐ŸŒŠ Welcome to the Final Straw Foundation!

We are a registered UK charity (no. 1191500) working with local communities and businesses to highlight the impact of plastic pollution on our environment and to try to minimise the amount of plastic entering our local seas and wider oceans. We started in Emsworth, Hampshire in 2018 as a group of volunteers giving our time to help clean up our local community spaces and, in time, the surrounding a

reas. We were a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) from June 2018 through to September 2020, at which point we gained our charity registration and became the Final Straw Foundation CIO. We work with many different types of business on sustainability and helping them find ethical and sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic in their activities. We have a very busy school outreach programme and have reached thousands of children in the Solent area through assemblies and workshops. We work with community groups, giving talks and running activities and encouraging people to avoid single-use plastic and how to best dispose of it if they do need to use it. We still run regular beach and community cleans as it is a great way to get back in touch with nature, with benefits that include the obvious clear-up of litter, but also meeting like-minded people and getting some often well-needed head space and connection with nature.

Calling all South Coast Marinas, Boatyards & Quays! ๐Ÿฆชโš“๏ธ

Weโ€™re putting the final pieces together for our huge annual Oyster Cleaning Event this autumn, where hundreds of volunteers will join us to clean thousands of native oysters for deployment into the Solent! ๐ŸŒŠโšก๏ธ

Thereโ€™s just one key piece of the puzzle we need to lock in first,

We need NEW HOMES for our Oysters! ๐Ÿก๐Ÿฆช

Before we release the volunteer dates, we need local marinas to step forward to host native oyster nurseries under their pontoons starting this November.

Why partner with us?
๐Ÿงช Natural Filtration: A single adult oyster can filter up to 200 litres of water a day, boosting water clarity around your pontoon/marina.
๐ŸŒฟ Boost Biodiversity: Oyster cages act as mini-reefs, attracting fish, crabs, and local marine life to your site.
๐ŸŒฑ Zero Cost: This is a 100% free opportunity to elevate your marinaโ€™s eco-credentials and support real, local ocean restoration.

Help us secure these habitats โœจ

๐Ÿ‘‰ Interested in becoming an official Oyster Nursery host?

Drop our Restoration Project Lead an email at [email protected] before November!

Ready to make litter picking a sport? ๐Ÿ†

Who said ocean conservation can't be a little competitive?

The British Science Festival is landing in Southampton, and on Sunday 20th September, theyโ€™re hosting a Spogomi Showdown in Guildhall Square!

๐Ÿ’จ Trash talk (the good kind) is fully encouraged๐Ÿ˜†

โšก THE DETAILS:
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ When: Sunday 20th September | 10:00 โ€“ 12:30
๐Ÿ“ Where: Guildhall Square, Southampton
๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Cost: FREE!

We thought itโ€™d be rude not to rally our incredible supporters to join in on the action! Grab a team or sign up as an individual, help clean up the city and see if you can beat our score.

Plus, the entire British Science Festival is packed with more incredible, FREE events all week long. ๐Ÿงชโœจ
