We are a registered UK charity (no. 1191500) working with local communities and businesses to highlight the impact of plastic pollution on our environment and to try to minimise the amount of plastic entering our local seas and wider oceans. We started in Emsworth, Hampshire in 2018 as a group of volunteers giving our time to help clean up our local community spaces and, in time, the surrounding a

reas. We were a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) from June 2018 through to September 2020, at which point we gained our charity registration and became the Final Straw Foundation CIO. We work with many different types of business on sustainability and helping them find ethical and sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic in their activities. We have a very busy school outreach programme and have reached thousands of children in the Solent area through assemblies and workshops. We work with community groups, giving talks and running activities and encouraging people to avoid single-use plastic and how to best dispose of it if they do need to use it. We still run regular beach and community cleans as it is a great way to get back in touch with nature, with benefits that include the obvious clear-up of litter, but also meeting like-minded people and getting some often well-needed head space and connection with nature.

We asked, and the South Coast answered!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we have officially secured pontoon host homes for ALL 20,000 native oysters for this November! 🌊

A massive thank you to all the incredible marinas, boatyards, and quays who stepped up to host these nurseries under their pontoons.

Together, you’ve unlocked a massive win for the Solent, up to 4 million litres of seawater being naturally filtered every single day once these habitat engineers settle in! 💧🐠

We are so sorry to announce that our Decoupage Event scheduled for this Saturday has had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

We are thrilled to team up with our friends at the Western Sussex Rivers Trust once again to help protect one of our precious local chalk streams, the River Lavant! 🌿✨

Chalk streams are rare, vital habitats that need our protection, and we need your hands on deck to help clear litter and keep this ecosystem thriving. We've got two dates lined up this month:

Calling all South Coast Marinas, Boatyards & Quays! 🦪⚓️

We’re putting the final pieces together for our huge annual Oyster Cleaning Event this autumn, where hundreds of volunteers will join us to clean thousands of native oysters for deployment into the Solent! 🌊⚡️

There’s just one key piece of the puzzle we need to lock in first,

We need NEW HOMES for our Oysters! 🏡🦪

Before we release the volunteer dates, we need local marinas to step forward to host native oyster nurseries under their pontoons starting this November.

Join us at the Spogomi Showdown!

Who said ocean conservation can't be a little competitive?

The British Science Festival is landing in Southampton, and on Sunday 20th September, they’re hosting a Spogomi Showdown in Guildhall Square!

For anyone unfamiliar, Spogomi is the Japanese phenomenon that turns litter picking into a fast-paced, high-energy sport and you know the Final Straw Foundation team couldn't resist signing up! 🏃

💨 Trash talk (the good kind) is fully encouraged😆
