🚑 Help Hatton & District Community First Responders Stay on the Road 🚑

Every day, our volunteers give up their own time to respond to life-threatening emergencies across Hatton and the surrounding villages. We are often the first on scene, providing vital treatment in those critical first minutes before an ambulance arrives.

Everyone thinks we have no relevance to them, until we do. We’re not a bookable service, we turn out at the tip of a hat to respond to emergencies, your emergencies.

To continue delivering this lifesaving service, we need to purchase a dedicated response vehicle.

We’ve found a suitable vehicle for £2,700 – an affordable opportunity that would allow us to respond more reliably, carry essential medical equipment safely, and remain available to our community whenever we’re needed.

As a volunteer-led organisation, we receive no funding for response vehicles. Every piece of equipment we use, every mile we travel, and every improvement we make is only possible because of the kindness and generosity of people like you.

Whether it’s £1, £5, £20 or more, every donation brings us closer to putting this vehicle into service and helping us reach patients when every second counts.

🔥 HEAT 🔥

With temperatures expected to remain high, Hatton & District Community First Responders are reminding everyone to take a few simple steps to stay safe.

💧 Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
🏠 Stay in the shade or indoors during the hottest part of the day (11am–3pm) where possible.
👒 Wear lightweight clothing, a hat, and sunscreen if you're outside.
🚶 Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours.
🚗 Never leave children, vulnerable adults, or pets in a parked vehicle – even for a few minutes.
👵 Check in on elderly neighbours, friends, and relatives, as they may need extra support during hot weather.

⚠️ Know the signs of heat exhaustion:
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Heavy sweating
• Feeling sick
• Muscle cramps

If someone has these symptoms, move them to a cool place, encourage them to drink water, and cool their skin with damp cloths or a fan.

🚨 Call 999 immediately if someone becomes confused, stops sweating despite the heat, has a very high temperature, loses consciousness, or shows signs of heatstroke. Heatstroke is a medical emergency.

Take care of yourself, look out for one another, and enjoy the sunshine safely. 💙🚑

👋 HELLO!
It's been a while since we first introduced ourselves when the group began. Since then, our following has grown significantly, so we feel it is only fitting to reintroduce our group, our aims, and how we work.
We are Hatton and District First Responders, a team of dedicated volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds. Our members include ambulance staff, hospital clinicians, firefighters, office workers, and many others, all united by a shared goal: helping our local community.
🚑 We respond to 999 calls on behalf of East Midlands Ambulance Service. Our responders travel at normal road speeds and always in accordance with road traffic laws. Because we live within the communities we serve, we're often able to reach patients before an ambulance arrives, providing vital early care when every minute matters.
🚨 All of our responders are trained in Basic Life Support, with additional education in patient assessment, examination, and treatment. Many of our volunteers choose to undertake further training, allowing them to develop an extended scope of practice and provide an even greater level of care. We also have direct access to senior clinicians in the ambulance service control room, meaning expert advice is always just a call away.
⌚ Our responders give up their own free time to answer emergency calls. We leave family dinners, social events, and even our beds in the middle of the night to help people experiencing what is often one of the worst days of their lives. We do this because we care deeply about our community and want to make a difference.
As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on the generosity of our local community to help fund our equipment, training, and operational costs. Every donation, every fundraiser, every share of our posts, and every word of support helps us continue providing this life-saving service.

🌅‼️RED WEATHER WARNING‼️🌅

Today and the next few days will bring incredibly high temperatures as we experience a rare Red Extreme Heat Warning issued by the Met Office.

Heat exhaustion can affect anyone and, if left untreated, can develop into heatstroke - a medical emergency.

Look out for signs, including:

😣 Feeling dizzy, weak or unwell
🥵 Headaches
😓 Excessive sweating
🤢 Nausea or vomiting

If you develop symptoms, take action early. Heat exhaustion can often be managed without emergency help if you cool down within 30 minutes by:

✅ Moving to a cooler or shaded place
✅ Removing unnecessary clothing
✅ Drinking plenty of fluids
✅ Cooling your skin with water or a fan

If your symptoms don't improve, heat exhaustion can progress to heatstroke, which requires urgent medical attention. Recogising the signs early and taking action can prevent you from becoming seriously unwell.

For urgent medical advice, that is not a life threatening emergency, contact NHS 111 Online or by phone.

In a life threatening emergency, always call 999 first.

☀️ HEAT WARNING – PLEASE TAKE EXTRA CARE OVER THE COMING DAYS ☀️

Hatton & District Community First Responders are reminding everyone to stay safe as temperatures are expected to remain unusually high over the coming days.

Hot weather can affect anyone, but older people, young children, those with long-term health conditions, and people working outdoors are particularly at risk.

💧 Drink plenty of water and avoid excessive alcohol or caffeine.
🏠 Keep your home as cool as possible by closing curtains or blinds during the hottest part of the day.
👒 Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and a hat when outdoors.
🌳 Stay in the shade where possible and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours (11am–3pm).
🚑 Learn the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke, including dizziness, headaches, excessive sweating, confusion, and nausea.

Most importantly, please check in on elderly relatives, neighbours, and vulnerable members of our community. A quick phone call or visit could make a real difference.

🚨 We will continue responding to emergency calls across our community as normal. However, periods of hot weather often lead to increased demand on ambulance services, and higher call volumes are expected over the coming days. By taking simple precautions and looking out for those around you, you can help reduce avoidable heat-related illnesses and ease pressure on emergency services.

If you need medical advice for a health concern that is urgent but not a life-threatening emergency, contact NHS 111 online or by calling 111 for guidance.

If someone becomes seriously unwell, stops sweating, develops confusion, loses consciousness, or has a very high temperature, call 999 immediately.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and look out for one another.

☀️It's warming up!☀️

With the warmer weather arriving, Hatton & District First Responders would like to remind everyone to stay safe and look after yourselves in the heat ☀️

Dehydration can happen quickly, especially during hot spells or when you’re active outdoors. Here are a few simple ways to reduce your risk:

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day — don’t wait until you feel thirsty
🧴 Avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine, as they can contribute to dehydration
🧢 Wear light, loose-fitting clothing and protect yourself from the sun
🏠 Take regular breaks in the shade or indoors to cool down
👵 Keep an eye on vulnerable people, including the elderly, young children, and those with existing health conditions

⚠️ Signs of dehydration can include dizziness, headaches, dry mouth, dark urine, and feeling unusually tired. If symptoms become severe or someone becomes confused or unwell, seek medical help immediately.

When we are first on scene (94.3% of the jobs we attend), we don’t just stand around.

We are constantly observing, assessing, calculating, and using our experience to make the best possible decisions for each patient. Sometimes that means hospital care — but often, it means finding a safe and appropriate alternative. Signposting, referrals, or arranging different pathways of care can make all the difference.

Every time we do this, we help free up an ambulance for someone whose condition can’t be managed outside of a hospital setting.

Last month alone, that was the case in 40.4% of the incidents we attended.

To put that simply, our first responders only required ambulance backup in 59.6% of cases- (Blue on the attached chart)

Every other colour is an alternative outcome facilitated by our responders.

But none of this is possible without the support of our community.

Community First Responders are volunteers — giving their time, skills, and compassion to be there when it matters most. Donations help us maintain equipment, fund training, and ensure we can continue to respond quickly and effectively.

🚨HELP EQUIP LIFE-SAVING RESPONDERS 🚨

Our Community First Response team is expanding — more volunteers are stepping forward to protect our community. But right now, we don’t have the funds to buy the essential equipment they need to respond safely and effectively.

This is urgent.

Every call they attend could mean the difference between life and death. Without proper kit, these volunteers are limited in what they can do — and that puts lives at risk.

We are urgently asking for donations to fund:

-Defibrillators (AEDs)
-Medical response kits
-Life-saving equipment
-High-visibility clothing

🚑WELCOME!🚑

We want to say a massive congratulations to our newly qualified First Responder, Sam!

Sam spent last weekend learning about the workings of the ambulance service, and how best to assist members of communities we serve in their time of need.

Sam will now undergo a mentorship program where she will respond to calls alongside an experienced responder until she is ready to hit the roads solo!
