Skills on Wheels!
The new skatepark at King George V Recreation Ground in Hitchin was officially launched recently, and what a fantastic celebration it was! Toddlers, children, teenagers and adults came together to enjoy the impressive new multi-level facility, showcasing their skills and trying out scooters, BMX bikes and skateboards.
The event was packed with activity, including coaching sessions, open riding, friendly competitions and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. It was wonderful to see so many people making the most of the new space and celebrating everything it has to offer.
We were proud to work alongside North Herts Council and skatepark specialists Canvas - Skateparks and Public Spaces to help bring this project to life. Our Landscape Architects team played a key role in ensuring local voices helped shape the design through community consultations held at the early stages of the project. We also enhanced the surrounding area with wildflower planting, helping to boost biodiversity and create an attractive environment for visitors to enjoy.
Our Trustees, Phil and Elizabeth, were delighted by both the quality of the finished skatepark and the fantastic turnout from the local community. They were also moved by the touching tribute to a local young person who had been involved in the project's early development.
The skatepark is free to use and can be found next to the rugby club on Old Hale Way in Hitchin. Whether you're a seasoned rider or looking to give skateboarding, BMX or scootering a try for the first time, the new facility offers something for everyone.
