Our Green Aiders proramme is about so much more than simply gardening. It's about helping someone feel safe using their garden again or being able to look out of a window and enjoy the view. It's about reducing isolation, building confidence and enabling people to reconnect with the place they call home. It shows how practical support can restore independence, confidence and connection, while making neighbourhoods safer and greener, that's the real value of Green Aiders.

We're also proud of the volunteers who give their time, energy and compassion to support their community. Their contribution demonstrates the power of people coming together to make a tangible difference so thank you to everyone involved. We look forward to growing this programme and supporting even more residents in the future.

🌻Another busy month to recap! September saw the autumn equinox, home school learning in our community garden in Luton, river health monitoring and volunteer sessions in Watford. It also saw harvesting of home-grown foods, renovation of a school pond, practical landscaping, horticulture and conservation skills developed in Chelmsford, a visit to Colchester Zoo, and Green Aiders filmed for TV.

⭐VERY LIMITED SPACES REMAIN!

🌊Water Literacy training could be a crucial resilience tool at a time when water scarcity is already affecting households, businesses, communities and the environment.

More than 2,500 people trained through the Water Literacy pilot programme, which helped individuals and organisations better understand the UK’s water crisis and the practical action they can take in response.

Memorial Park Community Food Growing Hub in Luton is a great venue for home school families, adult learning groups and for volunteers who'd like to learn more about gardening, using tools and growing fruit and vegetables.

Overseen by our qualified leaders, our regular groups help create a sense of belonging and build social networks, in addition to supporting new skills, practical maintenance of the site and a safe environment in which to learn.

Are you based in Bedford and interested in building green skills?

We’re looking for people to join our free 8-week Green Skills & Employability Programme starting next week!

Open to anyone aged 19–65, currently out of work and living in the Bedford area, the programme is a chance to build confidence, gain practical experience and take positive steps towards work, training or volunteering.

You’ll get involved in:
🌿 Practical environmental and landscaping work in Jubilee Park
📄 CV, interview and job-search support
🎓 AQA Unit Awards
👷 The opportunity to work towards a Health, Safety and Environment Certificate to support a future CSCS card application
💚 Activities that improve a local green space and support biodiversity.
📅 6 October – 26 November 2026
🕙 Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, 10am–3pm
