Thank you Aldenham Parish Council for hosting the consultation session for the Letchwood Heath Pond restoration. We were really pleased with the turnout and the response we got for our proposed design (part of which we share here) with the aim to establish a practical, long-term management approach that supports the pond’s ecological health, waterquality and biodiversity. We are loking forward to the next steps!

The energy price cap will rise again from October, adding further pressure to household budgets as we head towards winter.

For many households already facing high living costs, even a relatively small increase can make things harder. And while changes to the price cap matter, improving the energy efficiency of our homes and making sure people can access the right advice and support are just as important in tackling high bills for the longer term.

Groundwork East’s Green Doctors provide free, impartial support to help people understand their bills, use energy more efficiently, access grants and discounts, and deal with issues such as energy debt, damp and mould.

If you or someone you know could benefit from support, find out more here: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0xSrcT0

Safe, welcoming and accessible green spaces are key to maintaining positive health and wellbeing for local people and the natural environment. We are working with Leiston-cum-Sizewell Town Council to deliver a wide range of volunteering and community engagement activities in the area, with plenty of space for installing biodiversity-enhancing features and creating new areas for the benefit of nature.

We spent a great day last Saturday in Leiston working with volunteers creating habitats (hedgehog houses in this instance!), meeting new people and talking to them about what they want from their green spaces. We have another free event coming up for families next month that you can sign up to here: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0xQFyq0 and we'd love to see you!

Drought. Wildfires. Hosepipe bans. Prolonged dry weather. This summer has shown us just how precious water is. 💧

It’s been impossible to ignore the pressure on our water supplies. And with the climate crisis making these extremes more likely, understanding water – and how to protect it – has never been more important. 🌍

So this , we’re talking about Water Literacy…

Alongside Waterwise and Northumbrian Water, with support from the Ofwat Innovation Fund, we delivered the Water Literacy pilot across the region. More than 2,500 people took part, exceeding our original target. The pilot is estimated to have helped save almost 900,000 litres of water every day, while building understanding of water scarcity and the practical changes we can all make to use water more wisely. 💙

With the pilot now complete, Water Literacy training is now opening up to more people. Sign up to be the first to hear about new course dates 👉 https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0xLRCm0

We are coming to the end of the really, really hot weather in most parts of the Uk now, and some of us have even seen a bit of rain. No doubt your gardens will have suffered and we have some guidance for how to water sustainably to conserve water and store excess rainwater to use more efficently without calling on mains water supplies.

Sustainable gardening depends on smart water management with winters expected to be warmer and wetter, while summers grow hotter and drier. Efficient watering techniques can really help: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0xKqCW0

While very few traditional UK crops are completely drought-tolerant, and most vegetables will still benefit from watering, the following crops are generally more resilient and can cope relatively well with dry conditions once established.
