This September, Herts Haunted Investigations are heading into one of Hemel Hempstead’s oldest and most intriguing buildings for an evening of paranormal investigation… and you’re coming with us. 👀
🏚️ THE HISTORY…
The Olde Kings Arms dates back to the 1500s and is one of Hemel Hempstead’s historic timber-framed buildings. The pub itself states that Henry VIII is believed to have stayed there with one of his wives. (The Olde Kings Arms)
But it’s not just the history that makes this place interesting…
👻 THE PARANORMAL STORIES…
🔸 There are reports of a “Jolly Man” — described as a large, laughing male figure — allegedly seen around the upstairs bedrooms.
🔸 One theory claims this apparition could be connected to Henry VIII, although this remains folklore rather than established fact.
🔸 Perhaps one of the creepiest stories is that of the “Brown Lady” — said to be a young woman from the early 1900s who supposedly met the love of her life at the pub before he left to fight in the First World War. He never returned… and legend says she still waits for him.
🔸 During a major refurbishment in the 2000s, the building was described as having boarded-up upper floors, broken floorboards, darkness… and even rumours of ghostly goings-on. (MorningAdvertiser.co.uk)
🔸 The building has also previously attracted paranormal investigators, with reports of unexplained activity and investigations dating back years. (Dacorum Heritage)
