St Clare Hospice

St Clare Hospice St Clare Hospice is a local charity and each year we care for hundreds of people across West Essex and the East Hertfordshire border.

We provide free, compassionate care and support to adults with life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers.

‘I don’t know how you can put a price on that. It’s invaluable’ – Andy, Nicky’s husband and St Clare Hospice supporter.

Will you donate to fund our care for the future?

Last week, our CEO Sarah Thompson and supporter Andy spoke to ITV Anglia about the human cost of the hospice funding crisis.

Andy’s wife Nicky was cared for by St Clare Hospice after her breast cancer diagnosis – support he says his family 'could not have coped without.'

With St Clare facing service cuts due to lack of government funding, Andy shared: 'It angers me. I feel angered by it. I think it's almost disgusting. If you can't fund something that's so important, I don't know what they're funding; that's more important than this. It’s dignity at the end of someone’s life.'

Stories like Nicky and Andy’s show why fair hospice funding matters. No one should spend their final days and hours in ambulances or corridors instead of receiving expert, compassionate hospice care.

Until the government commit to long-term, sustainable hospice funding, we urgently need your support ❤️

“The hospice funding model is utterly broken. This isn’t a failure in hospice management, or about hospices becoming irrelevant – demand for hospice services is only getting higher as our UK population ages and lives longer with more complex health conditions.”

Our Chief Executive Officer, Sarah Thompson, spoke to The Mirror journalist Andy Lines about our heartbreaking news surrounding our funding crisis – touching on how, nearly 60% of hospices in England have either made or are considering cuts to frontline services, she expressed her anger about the broken system, leaving hospices like St Clare ‘high and dry’.

Harlow. What. A. Weekend.

We couldn't be more grateful for everyone who came together to run along the rainbow road in aid of hospice care 🌈

Your support has helped raise over £14,000 for St Clare Hospice's expert, compassionate palliative and end-of-life care. This could help fund seven days of specialist care from our Therapy team, giving patients access to physiotherapy and occupational therapy to build confidence and learn skills to live more independently.

We'd like to extend a thank you to...Harlow Rugby Club, The Wedding Brothers, David Lloyd Harlow , Whiskful Baking, Steve's Ices, our amazing volunteers and photographers Vikki Lince, James Bauer and Peter O'Leary for capturing this magnificent event!
