I have genuinely never seen so many Foxgloves in one place before! I love tiny little wildflowers that you have to search for and crouch down to photograph, but these huge cerise spikes are utterly, utterly glorious! This is a part of the wood that was coppiced recently - the sun hit the floor and the Foxgloves awakened!
South Wood, Potman's Lane, in between Ninfield and Catsfield.

Fabulous Foxgloves in South Wood!
This is the area where we began bringing back coppice rotation a few years ago, and what a difference it has made. The following Spring, the Bluebells immediately boomed, producing beautiful deep displays that everyone remarked upon.
Then this year brought a lovely surprise. As the Bluebells wilted, we started to see Foxglove leaves emerging. Then more and more.
And right now, this extraordinary sea of dark pink spikes. Tall and vivid, hundreds and hundreds. More than I have ever seen anywhere before, utterly spectacular!
They’ve not been recorded in this part of the wood for at least 20 years, they must have been dormant until the canopy opened and the sun hit the woodland floor.
If you’d like to get involved with looking after South Wood and helping to give nature a hand, get in touch. We have conservation volunteering sessions here on Mondays and Wednesdays. You never know, you might be part of the next unexpected Foxglove restoration wave!

We'd like to say a massive thank you to all of the amazing conservation volunteers who have been coming out with us this year. We've been so busy and achieved so much, making a huge difference to green spaces and nature!
From woodland management to path creation, from natural flood management and leaky dams to invasive species removal, from delicate wildflowers to great big habitat piles and deadwood hedges... you have been out there in all weathers, gloves on, boots on, and really getting stuck in!

Last week, we were at The Horder Centre in Crowborough talking to staff about our new Green Gym that starts next week.
🌻Top line: Wellbeing in nature, weekly sessions, free to take part, no commitment. Activities such as gardening, woodlands, nature paths & conservation; can be as easy as you like to suit all abilities.🌻
We met physiotherapists, nurses, porters, estates and the Chief Exec to tell them all about Green Gym so they can recommend it to patients, visitors and the community. Some of them even joined in with the first task, clearing overgrown brambles in front of a pretty seating area. As well as lots of snipping, we spotted two frogs and a host of small orchid rosettes just waiting to burst into full glory.
