Hastings Ore WI Based in Hastings, East Sussex, our group is about meeting other women, learning new things, helping our community - and enjoying ourselves!

Hastings Ore WI is now one of the largest WI's in the East Sussex Federation. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month. We have a number of special interest groups including book groups, walking, craft, discussion group, gardening group and eating out. We also run events to support local charities. With currently nearly 70 members, we are an active, friendly bunch.

On Tuesday evening as dusk fell, 16 intrepid HOWI members joined Reggie from Hastings Ghost Walks for a spooky adventure around the Old Town 👻 Reggie regaled us with stories of ghostly characters from long ago and even had some of us acting out several gruesome tales! It’s just over 3 weeks until our autumn fair. We’ve been busy getting ready.
We’ve been collecting and making.
Yesterday at craft 14 of our members spent the afternoon making Christmas gifts.
Our bakers are on standby to bring you delicious cakes and savouries on the day to go with our refreshments.

Today we visited the Hastings Embroidery at Hastings Town Hall. Beautiful craftsmanship by the Royal School of Needlework, made for the 900th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings in 1966. So lucky that we have this on display in our town, albeit for a short time, and it’s free. Well worth a visit. Oh that it could be on display more often!🙏

Yesterday saw our inaugural Art Group meeting. 13 of us met together and learned about watercolours and different techniques. Some of us were novices some of us weren’t but we all lacked confidence. Last night we welcomed Diana Campbell to try and teach us Victorian Dancing including a quadrille. The teaching was excellent but I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance on Strictly this year…😂. We did enjoy ourselves though ☺️
