What a brilliant idea! (No pun intended!). 'Donate-a-Light' collaborate with lighting manufacturers and suppliers and collect their unused, surplus or discontinued lighting and pass it on to charities like ours. We now have new LED lighting throughout the Shed which replaced our old fluorescent or defective lighting.

Thank you to 'Donate-a-Light'. Your support is much appreciated.

We would like to say a big thank you to 'A Good Thing' and 'Terraguard Technologies'! Through the 'A Good Thing' platform, Terraguard Technologies donated three used but usable PC monitors to replace our defective ones. Your support is much appreciated

Great News!

To all members and prospective new members.

We are trialling opening on every 2nd and 4th Saturday morning of each month. Starting from the 23rd of May, the opening times will be 10am to 1pm.

We are still looking for a 'competent person' (aka a sensible volunteer! 😊) to open up and supervise a Thursday session. If anyone is interested or knows of someone who would be willing, please let us know.

Now that we own the Shed we are embarking on our next project, 'Project 2' - a full building refurbishment! Anyone that is familiar with the building will know that it has been severely neglected by the previous owner and it is in need of some loving care and tenderness.

We believe our members deserve better, so we want to provide a comfortable place to meet and, instead of them turning up in the winter months wearing overcoats, hats and scarves, a warm winter environment!

It is going to take a huge amount of effort, and we expect many months if not years, to raise all the necessary finances to completely refurbish the building but our first priority is a roof replacement.

However, it has become apparent that many major funders are very interested in what we do for our local community and quite often ask for evidence of how we are perceived.

We would like to ask for your help please!

If you have used our services to have an item of yours repaired or asked us to make an item for you, we would very much appreciate a letter (or email) of reference. If you have just popped in for a chat or maybe bought something from us, how did you perceive us? We would like to collate a portfolio of 'satisfied customers', which will go a long way to reinforcing our importance to the community of Ore and beyond.

We thank you in anticipation of your support!

We have a volunteer who is happy to open up the Shed on Saturday mornings. We will open from 9am through to 1pm and hope to start from early May (date to be finalised). If there are any existing (or of course new) members who would be interested in attending a Saturday session, please email us at [email protected], or leave a message on our shed phone or, mention it to any one of our duty supervisors. It would be helpful if we can gauge the amount of interest in a Saturday session.

We would also like to open on Thursdays but need a volunteer 'responsible person' to open up and oversee that daily session. If anyone is interested in helping out with this, again let us know.

Thank you!

With the sad passing of Godfrey in January, there is a vacancy for the position of Chair of the Board of Trustees. If you are interested in the position or know of someone who is interested, please email [email protected] with an expression of interest. We will then provide you with more information and arrange a meeting with the trustees. It is worth mentioning that a new ‘Chair’ will not be expected to manage the funding operations for our new refurbishment project.

It was great fun to collaborate with Creative Concoctions! We recently joined forces to help their volunteers make some planters for distribution around the town. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and we hope we can do it again soon.

We have some good news to report…

We became the proud owners of 20, Manhattan Gardens, aka ‘The Hastings & St Leonards Men’s Shed’ on Friday 13th March 2026!

We are so pleased and relieved we’ve finally got there.

It has always been the trustees’ ambition to own the building rather than be a rent paying tenant. Without having to find the rent, which was a large proportion of our costs, the income we generate from our sales, commissions, subscriptions and membership fees will broadly cover our normal running costs for the foreseeable future.

We couldn’t have done this without the support of our funders. We thank them for their amazing support. In alphabetical order:

29th May 1961 Charitable Trust
Big Local North East Hastings
Ernest Kleinwort Charitable Trust
Garfield Weston Foundation
Hastings Lions Club
Hastings Rotary Club
The Isabel Blackman Foundation
Magdalen and Lasher Charity
UK Shared Prosperity Fund (Government Fund Administered by HBC)

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS

It is with great sadness, that the trustees wish to advise that Godfrey, our Chairman has passed away.

He was such a true gentleman. The Shed would not be in the position it is now without his inspiration, dedication, and hard work and the trustees will miss his calm, thoughtful guidance. He will be a huge miss for us all and a very difficult act to follow.
