🌊 LET'S FLOOD THE BEACH WITH HOPE! 🀝

✨THIS SATURDAY 13th JUNE✨

From the RNLI to the Dove Cafe, we are planning to turn Hastings beach into a living patchwork quilt.

To mark the beginning of Refugee Week, everyone is being invited to come down to the beach from 5pm in order to be captured by drone camera at 6pm, wearing orange, the colour of Courage, in order to Stand Together and Be Seen.

Bring your project, your business, your organisation, your people, alongside your family, friends and pets, and take your place in a human patchwork quilt stretching from the RNLI to The Dove CafΓ©.

We will wear orange, stand together, be visible and hold hands stretching across the beach in a show of courage.

Do come and join us if you can - and tell as many people as possible (family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, complete strangers!) to come along too! Look out for the Orange Flags which will be placed across the seafront as meeting points.

🧑

Meeting point 1
RNLI
On the beach by the Harbour Arm

Meeting point 2
Bullet Cafe
Either side of the pier

Meeting point 3
Goat Ledge

Meeting point 4
Dove cafe
By the Jimmy Riddle statue

and Hastings Supports Refugees are gathering at the RNLI (meeting point 1)

🧑

This event and experience will be filmed & photographed as a show of solidarity with refugees. So the more people we can summon up, the more we will be "seen" and the more we can portray that message of hope in a world which is so desperate for it.

Thank you to Caitlin Lock at Hastings Photo Studio (@ The Yard, Hastings) for donating production services to this project (www.hastingsphotostudio.co.uk).

SATURDAY, 13th JUNE
Meet from 5pm in order to be captured by drone camera at 6pm.

See you there and thank you in advance for coming!

As we head towards Refugee Week 2026 (15–21 June), Hastings Museum & Art Gallery has officially become a Safe Havens venue.

This week, Hastings Museum staff took part in Safe Havens training and can now proudly display its Safe Havens sticker.

Becoming a Safe Haven is a natural progression of our ongoing collaborations since 2021, when we came together to work on Crossings β€” an exhibition centred around the Lampedusa Cross on loan from the British Museum β€” alongside an exhibition about the work of The Refugee Buddy Project in creating a Culture of Welcome network.

We are delighted to welcome Hastings Museum as the newest member of the network and excited to have this important partner onboard ahead of the Sanctuary Festival on Sunday 21 June.

The Safe Havens initiative reinforces the idea that creating a culture of welcome is not the responsibility of a single organisation β€” it grows through collective action across the whole town.
