Hastings Voluntary Lifeguards

Hastings Voluntary Lifeguards Voluntary Lifeguard Club running a variety of courses and providing safety cover for events.

The club meets on Friday evenings at Summerfields Leisure Centre, Hastings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. The club provides training for all of the Royal Life Saving Society UK awards from Rookie (aged about 8 years) upwards. Pool and Beach Lifeguard courses feature regularly in our training programme. The Beach Lifeguard courses provide a focus for open water training together with boat handling, other o

pen water awards. National Water Safety Management Programme has also become very popular. The club is now established in it's new base at East Hastings Sea Angling Association, The Stade Hastings . We now provide beach activities in the summer season from the club's base. The move has provided new focus and enthusiasm and is an exiting turning point for the club as it can utilise the excellent facilities at the club. Our club has an enthusiastic group who cover a variety of open water events in the area including sea swims, triathlons, rowing regattas and safety in action for local school children. They also enter competitions and arrange local competitions run on club evenings. The club organises monthly community life support courses offered free of charge. The club also ensures through its club welfare officer that all Trainers have enhanced DBS checks.

Last weekend we were at Rural Past Times as well as entering Hastings Carnival. We supported Rural Past Times by providing First Aid cover for the two day event and also ran a tombola for essential fundraising for the Club. The weather was scorching hot but visitors weren't deterred.
It was an amazing weekend and a massive 'thank you' to the HLG First Aid team and fundraisers - Dean Baker, Joe Slaughter, Joe Ford, Fred Cooke, Ruth Heyes, Jacinta and Savana Isles, Jake Denton, Tom Staff and family.

Photos from Hastings Carnival tonight. Brilliant weather, a great crowd cheering and clapping as the floats and prams went past. Thanks to Fred Cooke, Joe Ford, Julie Baker, Dean Baker, Scarlett Dixon, Jake Denton, Esme Rose, Chloe Stocks and Emily for supporting the club and collecting donations for the Carnival - great evening, thanks to every who made it happen.

In June we ran our second very successful beach lifeguard course of the 2026 season. This course was challenged by the record breaking heatwave temperatures whilst the course at Easter had to cope with Storm Dave!
Again, Joe the trainer, adapted the timetable to ensure the course members weren't in the heat of the day - the course members adjusted well to early morning sea training sessions.
Well done to all the course members, Joe and the rest of team.
