St Matthews Gardens Part of the Eversfield Estate, the Gardens were laid out in 1900 for local residents to enjoy and maintain. Membership available on application.

Victorian Gardens in St. Leonards, managed by a Residents Association and looked after for the use and enjoyment of local residents.

Lovely few days in the gardens getting on top of the maintenance list! Today the wild garden got some love, having strimmed all the paths yesterday. The seating area has had some repairs, and a little weeding. This area is allowed to grow wild however we do keep the brambles clipped from the wildflower areas and make sure paths stay accessible!

Finally, after loosing some much loved dogs who enjoyed the Gardens over the last couple of years we have placed a little memorial for all members who have lost a dog. It’s next to the main path and near the seating area. I’ve planted some sweet woodruff to grow in around it.

We were really lucky today with a fantastically timed break in the weather! Everyone worked really hard, thank you to the members who showed up to help.

The fence had been repaired, the perimeter cleared, hedges trimmed, bindweed tamed, and the compost turned! The children helped to plant and water some strawberry plants in the raised bed.

Another lovely boules night last night. Looks like we were lucky with the weather this week!

Waited till the evening for a mow; as always the top and bottom lawn are kept short whilst the meadow bank and the south west corner are left to grow for wildlife.

I love the contrast of the cut grass against the opulence of the south border.

It’s lovely and cool in the shade of the trees in the gardens.
