Congratulations to Aiden Doyle and his comrades in Unite at the Institute of Cancer Research for the amazing victory won for staff.

Aiden spoke at our July meeting about how pay had been frozen since 2019. The trades council made a donation to their strike fund. Their persistence has paid off and significant pay increases won.

Unite members at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) are returning to work today after they secured a historic pay settlement.

Hastings elected a council that promotes multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusion. But we face the threat of a Reform-led unitary authority taking over next year. The rights of refugees, migrants, Black, brown, Muslim, disabled and LGBTQ+ people are under threat.

A coalition of groups including SUTR, the Green Party, Hastings Independents, Hastings Mosque, the Rainbow Alliance, the Trades Council, UNISON and the NEU have come together to assert the values that make our town so special.

🚩It’s time to up the solidarity for the ICR strike!🚩

Workers at the Institute of Cancer Research are fighting for pay restoration. Today is their 25th day of strikes since early June—their current strike runs until 7 August.

ICR has reserves of over £150million and a CEO on £457,000. Meanwhile workers at ICR are struggling to make ends meet.

What you can do:

A full briefing on your rights under health & safety law and employment rights law.
The briefing will also give practical tips to pressure the employer, how to make legally tight independent assessments of temperature and humidity levels, and short-term and long-term mitigating measures to reduce workplace heat stress.
