Give your child the gift of writing for pleasure 🙏

Key research findings from the new National Literacy Trust are out ⭐️

Our 2026 Annual Literacy Survey of 125,375 UK children and young people aged 5 to 18 revealed that:

⭐️ Just under 3 in 10 (28.7%) of those aged 8 to 18 said they enjoy writing in their free time (vs 26.6% in 2025).
⭐️ 1 in 9 (11.9%) said they write something daily in their free time (vs 10.4% in 2025).
Both writing enjoyment and daily writing habits are still significantly lower than they need to be, despite the overall upturn.

New Thursday sessions for Young Authors, 3.30 and 4.30pm at Ditchling Bookshop. Small cosy creative writing clubs which build confidence and inspire a love of stories and poetry. Suitable for Year 4 and above. Teen sessions available on Wednesdays at 5pm. £9 per session includes snacks, now booking 🌟
