This house includes the artists Nicola Twaites – painter and Lorita Bath – gel plate printer.

Nicola is an abstract painter, using acrylic and watercolour to create enigmatic images inspired by The Elements: fire, water, air, earth and spirit. She also teaches a weekly abstract art class in Adastra Park, Hassocks.

Lorita Bath is an artist from Brighton, whose main aim is to capture the deep connection with the sun, moon and Mother Nature. She uses different methods such as Gel plate printing, mono printing and watercolour to get unique results.

House Number 14!

This venue includes the artists Chris de la Nougerede – painter and Mel Croft – illustrator.

Chris de la Nougerede creates bold, colourful paintings inspired by vintage tattoos, sailors, and global folk art traditions. Drawing on Mexican, Sicilian, and Indian influences, her work combines strong graphic lines with vibrant colour to create pieces full of character and storytelling.

Mel has worked as a commercial illustrator for over 20 years, with clients such as Waitrose, The Guardian, Penguin and the BBC. Mel uses mixed media and her creations always start as an ink or pencil drawing. Themes around Mel's work include birds, nature, humour and anything in between!

THIS WEEKEND! 🎉🎉

Hassocks Artists Open House is this weekend! Mark your calendar as this year we have more than 40 amazing local artists and 15 venues! The 4th and 5th of July from 11am to 4pm. Some houses/venues will also offer refreshments and cakes/macarons! Our artists are very busy preparing everything for the event ♥️

If you want a leaflet with the trail map you can grab one in some high street shops or the local library. You should also receive one in your home as we are currently delivering to most of Hassocks.

This house includes the artists Hyunhee Kang – painter and Emma Clark – painter.

Hyunhee Kang.

Painting and drawing make me feel good that when I paint I don’t think anything else, when I don’t I am everything else but not myself. I paint ordinary life try to reveal emotions we all recognise.

Emma Clark’s work reflects her love of nature, colour and people, drawing on the beauty she finds in the world around her.

Working in both portraiture and landscape, she captures the individuality of her subjects and the richness of the natural world, combining observation with expressive mark-making.

She is particularly drawn to light and texture, and while her work is bold and full of colour, it also expresses the feeling and quiet intimacy of everyday moments.

House Number 11!

This house includes the artists Ruth Waters – collage artist, Penny Sanderson – painter, Jojo Clinch - illustrator / jewellery, Gill Harvey – ceramicist.

Ruth is a collage artist using paper she decorates with acrylics. She then cuts, layers and sticks to create unique artworks of the local landscape.

Ruth has been shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards 2019 and 2020 and was the recipient of the Highly Commended Artist of the Year – Artist Open Houses, Brighton 2024.

Penny Sanderson is a Ditchling-based botanical artist, muralist and teacher.  Her work includes original oils, watercolours and some innovative new designs on metal. She has also developed a quality homeware range based on her unique images.

Jojo Clinch is an artist and illustrator based in Ditchling. Her latest collection of original paintings draws inspiration from daily walks across the ever-changing South Downs and the luminous glow of dusk. Working primarily with ink and watercolour, Jojo paints dreamy, imagined landscapes. Alongside her painting, she handmakes delicate silver jewellery—including intricate silk knotted necklaces adorned with semi-precious beads and handmade silver clasps. All of her creations come to life in her garden studio, where she also works as a children’s book illustrator.

Gill Harvey

‘I make a wide range of functional wheel-thrown ceramics in stoneware and porcelain - from tiny salt bowls to mugs, vases and statement fruit bowls. Taking my inspiration from the geology of the local area, I aim for a warm rustic feel and a sense of connection to the chalk and flint of the Downs.’

House Number 7!

This house includes the artists Ginny Pickles – prints, Jessica Llinares (Chikaishop) - Homeward, jewellery, Hannah McInnes – chalkware art, Verity Rebecca – jewellery, Charlie Batty – soap maker and Macarons by dark – Macaron Maker.

Ginny creates bold, colourful illustrations inspired by flowers, gardens and the natural world. Each piece begins with observation and sketching before being carefully crafted into vibrant contemporary artwork. Ginny’s prints are designed to bring joy, character and a connection to nature into everyday spaces.

Jessica is an artist based in Hassocks who has been selling online, in shops and museums for over 10 years now. She focuses on handcrafts, including laser-cut household, jewellery and decor items. Some of her designs are based on local British flowers, autumn leaves but as well colourful and art culture in Brighton but also in her love of Japan and Japanese culture.

Hannah founded Kitsch Fish out of a lifelong fascination with mermaids and a passion for collecting kitsch, vintage ornaments. From her home studio, she creates nautical-themed chalkware wall plaques inspired by the charm of the 1950s and ’60s.

Verity Rebecca: Eco silver & gold jewellery adorned with texture, gems & granulation created by Verity Rebecca on the Sussex Downs. Ready to wear & one of a kind.

Ditchling Soaps is a small, independent soap company based in Ditchling, East Sussex, created by Charlie Batty. Each bar is handmade in small batches at home using the traditional cold process method, with natural, nourishing oils and pure essential oils. 

Macarons by dark was established in 2024 by Hassocks local, Andrea Stocks. Andrea specialises in themed macarons baked in her home kitchen, and she recently launched a t-shirt for fellow macaron obsessives.

This is this year's trail map, with new venues and your all time favourites as well. This year we have a record of 15 venues with 42 artists. It's only for one weekend (4th-5th July) so plan your trail accordingly to not miss any venue, as it is going to be amazing!

We will explain during June all the venues and what you can find in each one, and an example of every artist's work. Stay tuned!
