The Misfits was founded when another club The Sumpoilers disbanded. The club's name came from the members calling themselves a bunch of "misfits" and that has stuck to this day. The clubs colours came from an album cover and was later re-designed to what it is now. The club's first clubhouse was the Jackson's pub but soon moved to the Stranton pub where the club started to grow. In 1994 women were
allowed to join and at one point the club had 35 members. While in the Stranton pub we continued with our charity fundraising work the first being the blind, this lead to many more worthwhile causes being supported namely, the deaf, RSPCA, and Catcote Special School which is now called Catcote Academy. The club decided to support Catcote every year as this charity was not funded. Our first event for Catcote raised £1000 to help pay for a new bathroom for the students and we still support them to this day with what ever they need. Our chairman Brian "the Boss" Measor attended the Havelock day centre in our town and we supported them by having tombola and raffle events. Over the next few years we helped the plaster ward at Hartlepool General Hospital, the hard of hearing, SPIN, Summerhill, PROP and helped send a family with their son who was going blind, to Disneyland. In 1996 we held a charity event for the Teardrop appeal hosted by the Hartlepool Mail which involved a live band, tumble and raffle at the spotted cow in Elwick village. In 1998 the club changed clubhouse and started using the RAFA club were we hosted rock nights to help the RLNI, the canine defence league and also the north west blood bikes who provide a critical all hours service delivering vital supplies of blood to hospitals across the region 365 days a year. We held our first rally in July 1996 were we raise more money for charity. We host 4 events throughout the year, our birthday bash in April, our rally in July, a pet food run in September and a christmas party in November. All these events raise money for our nominated charities. In April 1999 Brian "the Boss" stood down and retired due to ill health and a new Chairman Clem took over the role, that year we raised money for the special needs dogs trust, Cats protection league and helped a young girl buy a quad for her mobility needs. While at the RAFA club in May 2000 we were asked to support the millennium Link with the RAF which involved getting a baton across the country by using different modes of transport on every leg of the journey, as bikers, we rode to Stockton RAFA club to meet the next transport which turned out to be a jeep with some war vets driving the next leg. It was a great honour and a priveledge to support and help them. In and around 2001 we raised money for the Macmillan Nurses were we had a raffle, rock night and a pub crawl with collection tins. We are friendly with a lot of bike clubs in the area and in 2001 we got together with the Teesriders and the Moonshiners and held a rock night in our rally field which had 10 bands on. We are still going strong to this day and welcome any new like minded people who are interested in joining this great club.
