Hartlepool has a winner in the UNISON Northern Region ‘Stars in our School’s awards!

This is Rebecca Carney, who works at Catcote Futures, part of Hartlepool Aspire Trust, who was nominated by her colleague Lyndsay Turner.

Lyndsay said: "I nominate Rebecca because she has profoundly transformed the life of a pupil with complex difficulties"

"Through Rebecca’s unwavering dedication and innovative strategies, the pupil now confidently joins with peers for lunch, actively participates in classes, and recently surprised the parents by taking part in a college trip."

We had a great morning on Friday 29th November celebrating UNISON’s 10th anniversary ‘Stars in our Schools’ at Barnard Grove, Hartlepool, with a wide range of support staff, who carry out vital roles supporting young people.

School support staff are often hidden behind the scenes, but they are vital to the education of young people. Their roles are incredibly diverse, from cooks, cleaners and family support advisers to teaching assistants, admin staff and school business professionals and they all play a vital role in every aspect of school life and without them schools simply could not function.

Edwin Jeffries, Jt Branch Secretary, UNISON Hartlepool LG, said “The contribution made by support staff is hugely important in all schools and events like this provide an opportunity to show our appreciation for everything they do.”

Thank you to all staff and pupils of Stranton Primary School for their fantastic welcome for our Stars in our Schools celebration at their assembly this morning. Amazing support staff with amazing results - a credit to the school.

We'll be running a prize draw in every school in Hartlepool for UNISON members and arranging visits over the coming months ⭐😊

One Hartlepool school has also been chosen to host a special assembly and every single member will receive a thank you gift from UNISON to express our thanks for all the amazing work support staff do to ensure schools are a nurturing, safe and happy environment for children to learn.
