Did You Know?

Friday 16 October is Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) Awareness Day.

DLD affects about 2 children in every classroom, but many people have never heard of it.

Children with DLD can find it harder to understand what people say and to use words to share their thoughts and feelings. This can make learning, making friends and everyday communication more challenging.

Hartlepool Speech and Language specialists have been raising awareness of DLD and the importance of speech and language development at Headland Library today.

NEW EXHIBITION IN OUR CENTRAL HUB GALLERY!

Our current installation within Community Hub Central, put together by our incredible artists in the Fab Lab, is centered around Green Libraries Week, combined with celebrating the Turner Prize being at MIMA, just down the road in Middlesbrough.

Green Libraries Week is a national, yearly celebration of libraries leading climate and sustainability initiatives for their users and communities. Our exhibition celebrating Green Libraries Week is composed of pieces made from re-worked recyclables, as well as a record of hundreds of discarded litter items found on Seaton Beach, presenting the scale of abandoned rubbish on nearby nature sites, and the impact this can have on local environments and eco-systems.

On the other half is a celebration of the Turner Prize coming to Teesside, with information about the prize itself, alongside biographies for the talented artists nominated, with details about their work.

As always, our exhibition is free to enter and open whenever Community Hub Central is. If you are interested in an exhibition in our space, please see our social media for current open calls for work.

Our recent Dear Zoo Outdoor Play Sessions with Little Sprouts and Marina’s Amigos were full of fun, exploration and adventure!

The children enjoyed bringing this much-loved story to life through a variety of interactive activities, including animal-themed sensory play, creative crafts, story exploration and lots of outdoor learning opportunities.

There were plenty of smiles as our little explorers searched for animals, got hands-on with messy play and used their imaginations to discover which pet the zoo had sent next. Take a look at some of our favourite moments from the day!
