Congratulations to our Fellow, Dr Leigh-Ann Wakefield, on recruiting the 700th patient into the SECURE Trial! Over the past two years, Dr Wakefield has personally enrolled every participant as part of her PhD. With recruitment set to close at the end of this month, we are eagerly awaiting the results.

As always, we are incredibly grateful to every single patient who has given their time to help us find better ways of detecting cardiac disease.

Some of our fantastic team going 2025 while attending an Investigator Meeting for a new early phase heart failure trial opening this Summer.

Red for Research is an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of not only our amazing research patients, but everyone who supports research behind the scenes. This type of heart failure disproportionately affects women and ethnic minority groups. We are very proud of our team, who have worked so hard on studies to find new heart failure treatments, recruiting the first UK patients into 2 studies of this condition in the past year.

We had a brilliant evening yesterday connecting with the inspiring members of Heartlink, a local patient-led charity dedicated to supporting heart patients and their families. Our team members, Emma and Reinette, joined the event to discuss the latest in cardiac research and highlight the valuable ways patients can get involved—whether by participating in our research studies or contributing to Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) as we design new research projects. It was a pleasure to reconnect with one of our long-term research patients as well!

This International Women's Day we would like to celebrate Sandra and Jacqueline, two incredible women who have been participating in clinical research studies with our team for over a year. Sometimes coming in weekly, they have enthusiastically given their time to help find new medical knowledge that will support others. We think you are both just amazing!!

So many new treatments, especially medications, are still mostly tested in male bodies. In the last year we've seen a big increase in the number of women taking part in our studies, and we are so grateful to them all for the huge benefit this will have for women all around the world.

We still have more to do, especially in creating an environment where more women from multi-ethnic groups feel safe and confident to take part in clinical research studies. We will keep doing our best to learn and create this space for women. In the meantime, thank you to every single women who supports clinical research either by participating or supporting the design and delivery of studies - you are all brilliant 🏆

Our team have looked after 680 hearts since last Valentines Day 🫀 !! That's 680 amazing cardiac patients that have given their time and contributed to finding methods for preventing and treating different kinds of heart disease. We are grateful to every single one of them.

3 peaks, 4 hearts, 24.5 miles, 12 hours, 61,800 steps ~ mission complete!

The team had the most wonderful day completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks 24th August 2024. Thank you so much to all of our supporters, it was such an encouragement to know you were behind us and we were raising valuable funds to find new treatments and diagnostic techniques for cardiac patients!
