Keep up to date with the progress of the Salaam Centre. The Vision:
See "Mission" below
The Centre:
Our facilities are designed to push people to excel. A state-of-the-art gym
and sports hall will encourage healthy living and physical fitness; while a theatre, multimedia room and studio will help foster local artistic talent. The library and seminar rooms are an ideal space for learning and devel
opment; while dedicated prayer facilities offer a space for spiritual upliftment and contemplation. A children’s play centre, complete with party rooms and an external play area, will challenge
and engage younger generations and ensure the Centre retains its family-friendly focus. Based in North Harrow, the Centre is easily accessible by metro and bus
services enabling it to serve the large Muslim population as well as the richly diverse communities of North West London. Design and Environment:
The Centre draws upon our rich Islamic cultural heritage, fusing it with cutting-edge design to create an architectural landscape in tune with our vision. The piazza, a tribute to the iconic Islamic courtyard, provides a vibrant social space between the sanctum of the Centre and the world outside. Shafts of light permeating the building and gardens with running streams help create a quiet haven away from our busy lives. Integral to the Centre’s philosophy is environmental sustainability. Our aim includes minimising CO2 emissions, conserving energy and water, reducing waste and maximising our recycling. We will produce a quarter of our own energy needs and use less than half the water that a standard building would use through the extensive use of green technology. About us:
The Shia Ithna’ashari Community of Middlesex (Mahfil Ali) was established
30 years ago by a group of young professionals seeking to establish a space for communal worship, intellectual discourse, and social engagement. From the outset, our open environment fostered innovative and pioneering ideas to meet the ever changing needs of the community. Providing a free platform for speakers, the participation of all the community across age and gender, establishing the first
Sunday Madrasah and open engagement with our neighbours are just a few examples that have subsequently been adopted elsewhere. Having gained planning permission in January 2011, we have an opportunity to make the Salaam Centre a reality, enabling us to continue to grow and innovate, overcoming the
challenges of the future in partnership with the wider community. Building bridges, fostering talent and nurturing a social space, the Salaam Centre has the potential to inspire, develop and transform our community. It is through your support and generosity that we can enable this vision to become a reality. As the figures above show, the community has already raised 19% of the required funding, and a further £13 million is required to complete the centre. Please donate generously.
