A classroom is not only four walls. Sometimes learning happens under a tree, on a mat at home, during a walk, through a story, a song, a conversation, or a child asking questions about the world around them.
During the school holidays, these everyday moments continue to shape how children think, communicate, imagine, and learn.
Foundational learning is not confined to school hours alone. When children are encouraged to talk, read, listen, play, and explore, learning continues wherever they are.
This week, we celebrate the many simple spaces where learning quietly takes place every day.

Learning can sound like laughter too, let children play and engage with friends to boost their social skills. Try game-based learning activities at home like simple word games, where, you pick a letter and name as many words as possible with your child. The more they play, the more they learn.

Learning Begins at Home

School may pause during the holidays, but children continue learning every day.
A story shared after supper, a walk together, a song repeated, or a simple conversation can all help build language, confidence, curiosity, and connection. Learning at home does not need to be formal or expensive; small moments of attention and interaction matter deeply in a child’s development.
This week, we encourage families to create time for reading, storytelling, simple arts and crafts, conversation, and play with their children, even if only for a short time each day.

A look back at our March visit to the early childhood center's in Iganga. The most inspiring aspect was interacting with the children. Every moment, from encouraging spaces to thriving learners reminded us that learning begins with wonder and that children are naturally curious beings. With the right systems, their excitement and eagerness to learn can be nurtured. This reflects the importance of investing in strong early childhood education systems in Uganda.

Today we joined pupils at Nakalama Primary School in Iganga District to celebrate DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) Day. 📚✨

Pupils paused their lessons to read—some in pairs, others on their own—and we even joined them to share a few stories together.

Moments like this remind us how powerful reading can be. Through our work, we’re encouraging a love for books and helping set up school libraries to improve literacy and learning in our communities.

A small moment, but a big step—every page turned opens up new possibilities. 💛📖

🔹 PA (Early Childhood Education)
🔹 PA (Assessment Project)

Both roles are rural-based, with 4–5 days of fieldwork per week, and may include evening and weekend hours to coordinate with colleagues across different time zones. Ideal candidates are organised, self-motivated, and able to build trust with local communities.
