A track record of putting North Yorkshire first
Julia Mulligan has been your Police and Crime Commissioner since November 2012. She has worked tirelessly on your behalf to improve local services, as well as fighting our corner in the corridors of power. Julia has:
• Secured government and NHS support for four health-based ‘places of safety’ for people detained under Section
136 of the mental health act. Based at hospitals in York, Northallerton, Scarborough and Harrogate, these vital facilities mean vulnerable people – including children - no longer have to be detained in police cells and treated like criminals
• Helped persuade the government put its review of the police funding formula on hold. The proposals, which are now being reassessed, could have led to a cut of £9m for North Yorkshire Police
• After listening to the experiences of local people, campaigned for a fairer, quicker, more independent police complaints system – changes in the law are now going through Parliament
• Set up a new local hub providing services for victims of crime and, thanks to new money from Government, increased funding for victims of domestic and sexual abuse by 140%
• Launched a nationwide network to improve rural policing services, which has led to a new ‘rural crime task force’ being set up here in North Yorkshire. Following her re-election on Thursday 5th May, Julia will continue to fight North Yorkshire’s corner at a national level in government, and deliver real improvements here on the ground for people living, working and visiting our fantastic county.
