For children navigating anxiety or past trauma, a fast paced world can feel overwhelming. That’s why at our alternative wellbeing and learning provision, one of our most vital tools is simply... THE PAUSE. ⏸️✨

When a spark catches during outdoor learning, an experiment takes an unexpected turn, or an insect crawls across our path, our instinct is to jump in with explanations.

Instead, we stop. We hold the space.

Here’s why that quiet pause matters:

🔥 No pressure: It removes the fear of giving a "wrong" answer.

🌿 Safety first: It lowers cognitive overload and lets a busy nervous system settle.

🔬 Space for awe: True wonder can't be rushed. It needs room to breathe.

By slowing down, we show our students they are safe to observe, process, and wonder at their own pace. Real learning lives in that space in between. 💭

When was the last time you and your child stopped to just watch something unfold?

Share your moments of wonder below👇💙

Fabulous feedback from an Acting Headteacher of a Mainstream Primary School following a visit to the farm.

“Autism Angels is a calm, supportive and nurturing environment.

Sarah’s knowledge and expertise were evident throughout and her background with animals clearly shapes the high‑quality provision she leads.

It was inspiring to see how the team works with children - maintaining high expectations, ensuring tasks are completed and using clear cause‑and‑effect approaches around both demands and behaviour.

I have no doubt that (the children attending) will continue to thrive in this setting.”

Autism Angels is a registered, award-winning charity supporting hundreds of children, young people and their families across Yorkshire each year.

We offer a range of innovative and supportive services, including:
💙 Health & Wellbeing Alternative Learning Provision

📚 Meaningful & Accessible Learning Opportunities
🫶Therapeutic & Trauma-Informed Coaching Approach
⭐ Enterprise & Volunteering Opportunities

✨ Summer Roadmap: Week 4 of 6

Today, Sarah M is tackling the vague loopholes in school paperwork that often leave our kids without the help they actually need.

We’re stripping away the confusing legal jargon and replacing it with clear, concrete numbers that protect your child's education.

It’s all about turning generic promises into legally binding support, one step at a time.

Grab your notepad, and let's tighten up that paperwork together.

👇 Watch the video below to learn how to spot—and smash—vague language today.

When you've swapped out a vague word for a specific number, drop a 🔢 in the comments

16,000 children are now educated otherwise than in school.

That is a 38.8% rise in a single year and behind every number is a child whose individual needs cannot be appropriately supported in a school setting.

Families with children on EOTIS packages often face extraordinary challenges - many are living with severe anxiety, complex mental health needs or significant sensory differences.

Every child deserves legal protection, wherever they are educated.

💙 CORPORATE & BUSINESS SUPPORT 💙

Could your business or workplace help change the lives of neurodivergent children and their families in our local community?

We’re always looking to partner with local businesses that want to make a real difference. Whether you’re a small independent business or a larger organisation, your support can have a lasting impact.

Here are just some of the ways you can get involved:

💙 Make Autism Angels your Charity of the Year
💙 Become a corporate sponsor
💙 Organise a workplace fundraising event
💙 Bring your team along to one of our fundraising events
💙 Sponsor a child to access our life-changing services
💙 Match employee fundraising and donations
💙 Support us through your company or charitable foundation’s grant programme
💙 Offer employee volunteering, skills, or professional expertise
💙 Donate a prize or experience for one of our charity raffles
💙 Or work with us to create a partnership that’s right for your business

Every partnership, big or small, helps us continue supporting neurodivergent children, young people and their families when they need us most.

If you’d like to explore how your business could support Autism Angels, we’d love to hear from you.

Yesterday, one of our wonderful trustees, Catherine, took part in a BBC Radio 5 live discussion with Nicky Campbell about autism diagnosis.

Nicky spoke with one of the leading experts in the field, Dame Uta Frith, who shared her views that autism has become a “catch-all diagnosis” and suggested that sub-diagnoses could help distinguish between milder and more severe forms of autism. The programme also featured people from across the UK sharing their own experiences of seeking and receiving an autism diagnosis.

Catherine was proud to represent our community and share her lived experience as part of these important national conversations 💙

If you’d like to listen see the link below 👇 You can fast forward to around the 1 hour 48 minute mark to hear Catherine’s contribution.

🎧 Listen here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002zrpm

A leading expert is warning that autism is becoming a "catch-all diagnosis", applied to too many people.

Dame Uta Frith says the definition of autism has widened to include people with "milder traits" and "no language or learning problems".

Nicky Campbell speaks to Dame Uta live, and asks whether autism is being over-diagnosed — or are we simply understanding it better?

Join us today in wishing Yvonne a very, very Happy Birthday 🥳🎉💙

Yvonne is a hugely valued member of the Autism Angels team and our Horse & Licensing Lead 🐴

With a lifetime of experience working with horses, you’ll often find Yvonne out in the field checking on the horses, in the tack room keeping everything organised, or sharing her knowledge by teaching our children valuable horse skills and building their confidence.

Thank you, Yvonne, for everything you do. Your dedication, kindness, and passion make such a difference to our team and the families we support 🥰

We hope you have the most amazing birthday and a wonderful year ahead 💙

💙 FABULOUS FEEDBACK 💙

There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing how we’ve been able to make a positive impact on the children, young people, and families we support. 🥰

We’re so grateful to share more beautiful comments from one of our wonderful families. Thank you for trusting us to be part of your journey…it truly means the world to us.

✨ Here’s what they had to say…

“As we end this school year, I just wanted to say THANK YOU.

A year ago, I honestly didn't know if (child) would ever feel safe in education again. We were both exhausted, and if I'm honest, so frightened about what the future would look like.

Looking back now, it's incredible how much has changed.

You never tried to change (child).

You simply took the time to know them, understand them and meet them exactly where they were.

You saw beyond the diagnoses, the anxiety and everything we’d been through. You just saw (the child).

Over this past year I've watched my child smile again, laugh again, trust again and, most importantly, enjoy learning again. Seeing them come home muddy, full of stories, talking about the dogs, the horses and everything they’d been up to has been something I honestly thought we'd lost forever.

You've given them confidence, belonging and a place where they feel safe enough to simply be themself.

As a mum, you've given me something too... HOPE.

Hope that education really can be the right place when children are understood instead of expected to fit a mould.

Thank you for every smile, every muddy pair of wellies, every kind word, every moment of patience and every time you've quietly celebrated (child) for being exactly who they are.

We honestly can't thank you enough for everything you've done this year….” 💙
