According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) 32 million children across the world live with disabling hearing loss and 60% is preventable. The majority of these children live in developing countries. The consequences for such children may be poor communication, social isolation, stigmatisation, abuse and poor academic performance. Our prevention programme includes :
Training health care workers in
primary ear and hearing care, providing medical treatment for simple ear diseases ,health education to raise public awareness and working to help strengthen existing maternal and child health care. Our early intervention programme focuses on early diagnosis to include: hearing screening and assessment free hearing aid fitting and rehabilitation service. The strength of our programme lies in our commitment to embed our services into the existing health system of the countries in which we operate to provide for sustainability and capacity building. We work in government run health centres and also provide community outreach services via a mobile clinic.
