Thank you, Cancer Hair Care!!!

Today, we were lucky to have the wonderful Liz, from Cancer Hair Care, present to us all, on how to care for your hair whilst undergoing cancer treatment and post treatment.

We learnt about the scientific reasons of the effects of chemotherapy on your hair, although this can also be very individual. How to help care for your hair, during and after treatment and the wide range of products available to help boost your confidence, if needed.

We shared our own experiences within the group, expanding everyone's knowledge. Also, a few wigs were donated to their wig bank, to be refreshed and reused, by others in need.

The work this charity does is amazing. Please do check their website for full details: cancerhaircare.co.uk

☕🍰 Macmillan Coffee Morning TOMORROW! 💚

We can’t quite believe it’s already time for our third Macmillan Coffee Morning!

If you’ve been to one of our previous events, you’ll know what to expect… plenty of delicious cake, lots of coffee, good conversations and, most importantly, a lovely bunch of people coming together to support a great cause. 💚

Here’s a little glimpse of what our previous coffee mornings have been like - and we’re hoping tomorrow will be just as special (and just as full of cake! 😋).

We’d absolutely love to see you there! ☕🍰💚

Tomorrow, join us for an open discussion led by Jane! 💬

Cuppa and cake and as always ☕🍰

📚 SIGNPOSTING – FINDING THE RIGHT INFORMATION

A big part of a cancer diagnosis is the unknown.

You suddenly find yourself in a world you have only ever heard about through other people’s stories, and never thought you would have to experience yourself.

And then the questions start:

What are my treatment options?
How will my body cope with treatment and the side effects?
What are my rights at work?
What should I ask my medical team?
How do I tell my family?

At our group, you will meet people who have been through this themselves and are happy to share their experiences and what helped them along the way.

We also have lots of information and resources available. They can help answer some of your questions or point you towards the right place for more support.

And if we don't know the answer, that's OK. We are supported by a Cancer Nurse Specialist who we can contact when we need some extra advice or information.

So, if you are looking for information, have questions or simply don't know where to start, come and talk to us.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Keith and John from the Repair Shed in Redbourn. It was lovely to hear all about the work they do and the difference they’re making in the local community. 💙

Repair Sheds originated in Australia and were created to help men who may be at risk of social isolation or experiencing other difficulties. They are generally aimed at men aged 50 and over.

The idea is simple - come along, fix things, work on projects, have a cuppa and, most importantly, connect with others. ☕🔨

And it’s not just about repairing things! If you have something at home that needs fixing, you can take it along to the Shed. There’s no price list - they work on a donation basis. You can also donate tools that are no longer needed.

💙 For men who have had a cancer diagnosis, a Repair Shed could be a great source of social support, particularly for those who feel this type of environment would suit them.

A big thank you to Keith and John for visiting us today and sharing more about this fantastic initiative! 🙌

As always, there was time at the beginning of our meeting to enjoy a slice of cake, a cuppa and a good chat with some friendly faces. ☕🍰💙

Tomorrow we’ll be welcoming Men’s Shed to our group! 💙

Men’s Shed is a welcoming space where men can come together to make, mend, learn new skills and share their knowledge. It’s also about friendship, connection and helping to reduce loneliness and isolation.

We’re looking forward to hearing more about what they do, the projects they work on and how they support people in the community.

Meet the Team 💕

Today we want to introduce you to Gill and Sue, two of our lovely volunteers who have been with us right from the very beginning -3.5 years now!

You’ll probably know them as our “coffee ladies” ☕ They are often the first friendly faces you see, ready with your favourite coffee, a piece of cake and, of course, a warm welcome.

There’s always a smile, a chat and usually a few laughs too. They help make our Cafe feel like such a welcoming and relaxed place to be.

Thank you, Gill and Sue, for everything you do. We’re very lucky to have you both. ❤️
