Over the last nearly three years, YWAM Ships Switzerland (www.ywamships.ch) has raised and spent over £400,000 to overhaul and convert m/v Island Reach to be a first-class medical platform that can serve the poor of Madagascar over the next two decades plus. It is our intensions to ‘gift’ this vessel to Madagascar, re-register her there and employ local mariners in our partnership with their national Maritime Academy.
m/v Island Reach arrives in Port Said, Egypt tomorrow morning 31st October.
We do have two remaining challenges before us which we would ask folk to consider standing with us:
1. We are praying that the vessel will manage to transit the southern end of the Red Sea and upper part of the Indian Ocean without incident in these uncertain times.
2. We are looking to raise more funds to cover the costs of re-registering, reinsuring and recrewing the vessel by the 30th November 2024, as well as the medical service costs that are planned as soon as the new team are settled in. https://www.ywamships.ch/donate
