We believe that with the right support everyone has the potential to take steps that will improve their quality of life. Please explore this site to find out more about the range of activities, therapies and opportunities that are available. As an organisation we are committed to ensuring those with mental health problems are respected and included in their local communities. We are affiliated to

Our main office bases are currently in Harlow and Great Dunmow; however therapies and activities take place in venues throughout local communities across West Essex. Our Board of Trustees are all volunteers drawn from the local community. Our services are delivered by a team of 44 staff, 75 volunteers and 85 people who work for us on a self- employed basis. We actively encourage involvement by people who have a personal experience of mental ill health in all aspects of our organisation. Please do let us know if you have ideas of additional ways we could use this site to support those affected by mental ill health.

We had a fantastic day of community collaboration at the Reed in Partnership Harlow Connect & Care Fair this week!

The event was about supporting people who are currently unemployed and preparing to return to work. It brought together local organisations and support services to offer guidance and signposting around challenges like mental health and the cost of living.

It was great to engage with so many people and other organisations on the day. Thanks to the Reed in Partnership team for hosting such a brilliant event!

⚽ No one should feel left on the sidelines.

The World Cup brings people together – friends, families and communities cheering on the team, talking about the game and sharing the moment. We’re working to build that same sense of social connection in West Essex every day.

We all need regular conversation and friendly company, whether we’re watching every game or avoiding the football entirely. That’s what our free Befriending service is all about. We’re looking for:

💙 Adults who’d like a befriender
A weekly chat, a walk together or a friendly check in can make life feel lighter. Befriending is available to all adults in Uttlesford, Harlow and Epping Forest who would like some more social connection in their life.

🫶 Volunteers with an hour or two to spare
You don’t need any qualifications (or football knowledge!) to become a befriender - just kindness, reliability and a willingness to listen. We’ll give you training and ongoing support to help you feel confident in your role.

Let’s make sure no one in our community feels left on the sidelines 👇

Mike and Linda from MHP Theatre Company came into Mind Sanctuary this afternoon to drop off money they raised for us.

They put out donation buckets at performances of their production Fairapy, written and directed by Linda, at Harlow Playhouse in May.

We are thrilled to share a total of £111.53 was donated by generous Harlow theatregoers!

A huge thank you to everyone who donated and to Linda and the MHP team for choosing to support us. 💙

We were pleased to join the Waltham Abbey Leisure Centre Community Allotment Launch and Open Day recently!

It was a chance to find out more about the new Longfields allotment project and meet local support services and community groups.

There was a ribbon cutting ceremony at the plot before a short walk back to the leisure centre, where there were refreshments and information stalls.

As it’s Volunteers’ Week, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to the unsung heroes of our organisation - and highlight their amazing contribution.

Our volunteers play an invaluable role in supporting our work and make a real difference in the West Essex community. We currently have 99 active volunteers, who underpin our Befriending service, lead community groups and activities, and more. Not to mention our 8 trustees, who are responsible for the running of our charity!

Many of our volunteers are befrienders, who together dedicate around 340 hours a month to helping people in their community feel less alone. Another 9 support our weekly community groups, putting in around 50 volunteer hours a month between them.

To everyone who gives up any amount of time to support us: thank you for your dedication, generosity and kindness. We simply couldn't do it without you. 💙✊
