Beautiful MAGGIE arrived with us at the end of April. Another young stray, no more than 10 months old, unfortunately very thin and heavily pregnant π
She kept fosterer Jess waiting and guessing as to when her family would arrive and eventually gave birth to 5 babies in the middle of May.
The birth was very difficult and traumatic for Maggie and she very sadly lost one of her babies. Maggie and her four remaining babies were kept at Fyfield Village Vets for a couple of days as Maggie seemed to be rejecting her babies and did not want to feed them. The kittens were all very tiny and were bottle fed in between attempts to encourage Maggie to accept them. The vet staffβs brilliant efforts eventually paid off and Maggie overcame her resistance and accepted her babies and began to feed them.
Our vet coordinator Debbie monitored the family overnight and the babies were given supplementary feeds until we were sure that Maggie was confident enough to take over the full time care of her babies. β€οΈ
MAGGIE has now turned into Supermum and is not taking her eyes off her babies, who are now 11 days old! She is fiercely protective of them and they are thriving! Their eyes are open and they are gaining weight. We are hoping that when the kittens are a few weeks old, and on the move, fosterer Jess will be able to start socialising them and get hands-on. But for now, Maggie is making up for lost time and thatβs fine by us, we will go at Maggieβs pace and let her lead the way! π»
Our heartfelt thanks to fosterer Jess and all the staff at Fyfield Village Vets for helping Maggie at such a vulnerable time.
We will keep you updated on this special little family in due course.
Love from the Meowcat Rescue Team π½ ###
