COVEYbefriending Befriending, Mentoring and Family Support for young people and their families across Lanarkshire.

We are a charity providing a volunteering opportunity for people to make a real difference in the life of a young person needing support. This takes the form of one to one outings, building up a relationship and giving the young person a positive adult role model in the life.

COVEY is proud to support Challenge Poverty Week and stand alongside communities working to tackle poverty and inequality.

Poverty can affect anyone, and too often it can create barriers to opportunity, wellbeing and a secure future. Challenge Poverty Week is an opportunity to raise awareness and highlight the positive work happening to create change.

By working together, listening to lived experiences and supporting our communities, we can help build a fairer and more inclusive future.

This week, you can visit us at the Regent Shopping Centre in Hamilton on Thursday the 8th of October, where we will be on hand to answer questions and offer support at the Community Hub! We would love to see you there.

Last week, our ANGELS group had a fantastic STEM session! The young people first took on the challenge of building spaghetti and marshmallow towers, testing their designs to see who could build the tallest and strongest structure.

Then it was time to get creative again as we had a go at building robots from recycled materials!

We’ve loved seeing the creativity of the young people in COVEY’s Flourishing Families (South) group! 😀

Through hands-on activities, the young people explored some really meaningful ideas about growth, kindness and feelings:

⭐️ Planting flowers – thinking about how plants grow when they are nurtured, cared for and given what they need to flourish. A lovely way to reflect on how people also need kindness, care and support to grow.

⭐️ Clay model making and worry stones – getting creative with clay while exploring feelings and encouraging young people to share what’s on their minds.

⭐️ The Skittle experiment – watching colours spread and create beautiful patterns, sparking curiosity and plenty of “wow!” moments!

It’s wonderful to see young people expressing themselves and having fun together.

What a great time COVEY had at South Lanarkshire College Freshers Day yesterday! We were there to share the different volunteer opportunities we offer and the ways these can benefit students in their areas of study 🙂

Our amazing Young Ambassadors, Raven and Cian, were also there to share their experiences of being supported by COVEY and the difference it has made to their lives. They did a fantastic job!

We had lots of great engagement, with people sharing their advice to their younger selves. There were some really thoughtful responses.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, chatted with us and got involved. It was great to meet so many new faces and share more about the work we do here at COVEY.

It was another busy Team Time for COVEY today!

We had some great discussions and updates around our CashBack Connections project, as well as planning for our upcoming Christmas Gala. The team also had the chance to feed in to the Hamilton Pride in Place consultation.

We celebrated our fantastic team through team nominations and our team prize draw, recognising the hard work and dedication of everyone!

And a very special congratulations to our team member Jemma, who has been recognised with a Lord Provost Award for her amazing commitment to the community.

Jemma gives her time in so many incredible ways, from working in a soup kitchen and supporting the Children’s Hearing Panel, to providing haircuts for people experiencing homelessness.

Her compassion and commitment to helping others is truly inspiring. We’re incredibly proud to have Jemma as part of our team. 💜
