You will often hear us say volunteers are the heartbeat of Sailability... and that's because it's true!💙

So many different types of people give up their precious time to ensure their local Sailability club can continue to provide life-changing opportunities for anyone wanting to get on the water⛵

Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes too - whether it's instructing and coaching, preparing the boats, helping with memberships, providing a warm welcome, spreading the word of your club, or even providing those vital hot drinks and homemade bakes, you are all making a difference!☕🍰

No matter the role, each is vital and we here at RYA Sailability want to say a huge THANK YOU!!!⭐

Last week, Cowes Sailability Club was joined by the High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight who said:

"An uplifting visit to Cowes Sailability Club today as High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight to hear about their work and to meet the volunteers who make it happen as well as some of those who benefit greatly.

I heard so many stories of how so many individuals are benefitting at so many levels. Everyone is welcomed to this charity who support so many people in so many different ways."⛵

We are very happy to see 19 teams from 9 countries signed up for our 2026 European Championship event that is taking place as part of the World famous this year. It is especially exciting for our class to have new teams entered and new countries represented. We cant wait to see everyone in Travemünde, Germany in July.

A few weeks ago, Whitefriars Sailability Group's Hansa race team once again dominated at the Notts County Regatta! 🎉⛵

They said: "The wind was strong and gusty, hard work out on the course but it was hugely enjoyable for all our sailors who ended the day with huge smiles on their faces.

Enormous effort goes into packing and transporting boats, and we are very grateful for the army of volunteers who help so hard behind the scenes to make all this possible. And to our funding partners for their support; we couldn’t do it without you🥰"

Wonderful news from Bolton Sailing Club as their Sailability team has received vital grant funding from The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund, enabling them to purchase another Hansa 303 accessible boat for their fleet!⛵️

Last Friday Mrs D Hawkins JP LLB, His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, visited for the formal handover - resulting in these fantastic photos!📸

Bolton Sailing Club said: "Adding this new boat means even more disabled people will have the opportunity to experience the magic of sailing.

For many, sailing is a rare place where disability doesn't determine ability. It's a place where you can learn new skills, feel the wind on your face and enjoy the freedom of being out on the water.

This boat will create opportunities that empower and build confidence both out on the water and in everyday life.

A huge thank you to The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund for making this purchase possible. Your support will help us to continue breaking down barriers and ensure that sailing is a place where everyone belongs."

“Sailing has saved my life”

As week draws to an end, we wanted to once again share the story of Phil.

When Phil found Whitefriars Sailability and told his children he wanted to learn to sail, they replied “dad you can’t brush your hair in the morning… how on earth are you going to learn to sail?”

Now, sailing has changed Phil’s life and he is currently training to be a dingy instructor⛵️.
