Little Maplestead Parish Council

Despite the weather trying its best to put a dampener on things, the Little Maplestead Dog Show was a success!

We were not put off by the heavy rain and thankfully neither were lots of the villagers who came out to support us. We were rewarded by the skies clearing and in the end it was very pleasant.

Well done to all the winners, especially Jerry and Sam who scooped Best In Show, and well done to all the dogs who behaved so well.

Thanks to everyone who came along to help setup in the morning, and to those who stayed to help pack away at the end.

Thanks too to Brittens Bites for the catering, Mark for the music, Kay Crisp for judging and also a huge thank you to See Dee Pets for supplying such lovely prizes.

Please help us spread the word about free family swimming sessions taking place throughout August at: Braintree Swimming & Fitness, Halstead Leisure Centre and Witham Leisure Centre

Delivered by Freedom Leisure and Braintree District Council, these free sessions aim to help families stay active over the school holidays while easing some of the financial pressures many households face.

Alongside the free swimming, there will also be a range of low-cost summer activities available at selected centres, including:

Inflatables
Fun & floats sessions
£1 badminton
£1 table tennis
£1 squash
£1 track sessions

Residents should check session times and availability with their local leisure centre before attending.

For more information go to their website - www.freedom-leisure.co.uk

Residents can also download the app where all free swimming sessions will be marked as "Free"

Freedom Leisure is celebrating after being named a finalist in three categories at the prestigious UK Active Awards 2026.
