This year’s golf day & evening event aims to raise awareness & more funds. In memory of their dad Alain, Harry and Freddie Philp, along with 10 friends from Lightcliffe Golf Club, are undertaking a 100 hole golf challenge on Friday 20 June to raise money for a charity that aims to improve outcomes for people living with brain cancer, Brain Tumour Focus. In a single day, they will each be attempting to play 100 holes, 11 rounds, plus one hole, at Lightcliffe, that's over 20 miles walked over a hilly course, taking 400+ golf swings. This marathon day of golf will start at first light with an anticipated final 100th tee off, down the 1st, for all players just before dusk. The aim is to help to raise the funds needed to buy a portable MRI scanner which will be available to inform the treatment of brain tumour patients in our region at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. This will make a huge difference to many people's lives, and ultimately better outcomes for those with an indiscriminate disease that currently has a very low survival rate. Children presently have to go through the terrifying ordeal of an MRI scan without their parents, and patients have agonising weeks to wait for MRI scans to get results following surgery, this ultra-low field portable MRI scanner will change that. Did you know: Brain cancer kills more under 40s and children than any other, yet receives just 1% of cancer funding nationally. We want to help Brain Tumour Focus initially with sourcing this special MRI scanner, and then their next goal is to help fund much needed research. Raising awareness is a huge part of the 100 hole challenge, so thank you just for taking the time to read our post. If you would like to support the team with sponsorship and make a difference to the life chances of the many unfortunate people facing this devastating disease, please make a donation if you can here and include in your message 'Donating in support of the Philpy's 100 hole challenge team ' for reference: https://gofund.me/5120709f
