Halifax has darker stories than you might think. 🎭

David Glover returns to The Workshop for an evening of local history that takes in cursed pedlars, near-burials-alive, and two sisters near Sowerby Bridge who became apparent cases of human combustion in 1899.

You might know Halifax for its Piece Hall and its hills. You might not know it for the curse of a local pedlar that helped convict a Pendle Witch in 1612, or the near-burial-alive of Mrs Haigh of Shaw Hill inside Halifax Parish Church around 1770, or the two sisters near Sowerby Bridge who became, in 1899, apparent cases of human combustion less than a mile apart.

David tells those three stories and two more besides, following the trail beyond Yorkshire to the Headless Horseman of Chavenage and the Monk's Curse of Cowdray, where the darkness runs just as deep.

An evening of proper local history. Not the kind that gets put on heritage plaques.

📅 Sunday 1st November, 2.30pm
🎟️ Tickets £7.55

Every rehearsal needs a room. Every show needs costumes, lighting, someone to unlock the building at 9am on a Saturday. None of that happens for free, and ticket sales only ever cover part of it.

Angels membership fills that gap, and it isn't a favour you're doing us. It's a membership, with real things attached: ticket discounts, priority booking, backstage access, and for the Absolute Dahlings tier, a bottle of w**e at every performance.

From £4.17 a month, you become one of the reasons the doors stay open on a Saturday morning.

There's a version of Saturday morning where you stay in bed. There's another version where you turn up to a room full of strangers and find out what happens.

The Workshop runs the second version, term time, ages 11 to 19. No audition. No pressure. A free taster session first, to see what it feels like before you commit to anything.

A term after that comes to £40, or about £4 a week.

Try the free session. See what you think.

None of what happens on our stage exists because of ticket sales alone. It exists because a group of people decided, ahead of time, that backing it was worth doing.

That's the idea behind Angels membership. Not a one-off donation that disappears into the accounts. An ongoing relationship, with something coming back your way too: discounted tickets, priority booking, a look behind the scenes most people never get.

Sweeties starts at £4.17 a month. Luvvies at £8.34. Absolute Dahlings at £20.83, with a glass of w**e waiting for you at every performance.

Become one of the people who make the next show possible.
