This is an appreciation post for Sensei Nick Read who has taken on more of a teaching role over the past year. We have had a lot of new members join us over this period and Nick has stepped up as a Sensei, entertainer and Human punch bag. The kids love him and he's been a terrific role model to them. Thanks Nick, you deserve a medal 🏅

This is Jake. Jake is a rising star at Shelf Karate Academy. Jake trained with us when he was a young teenager and did very well, getting to 4th Kyu (purple and white belt) but stopped training, as many kids do. He re-joined the club in his 20's and was given the opportunity to retain his grade. Instead, Jake chose to start over at white belt, and take each grading again and earn his belts as an adult. Jake has a natural talent for Karate, picking up and remembering Katas, performing them with strength and grace, and when it comes to Kumite he puts up a good fight against even the most senior grades.

Having smashed through every grading to get to where he once was, last night was a big achievement for Jake, earning his 3rd Kyu, brown belt.

Keep an eye on this one. He will go far!
