We're so excited about our upcoming Refugee Week event exploring an important and often overlooked topic: the intersection of refugee & migrant experiences and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Courage to Get it Right: Children, Migration & SEND will bring together a keynote speaker from Refugee Education UK, alongside local lived experience and professional insight to explore questions such as:

🔹 What barriers do refugee and migrant families face when seeking support?
🔹 How can schools and services better identify and meet needs?
🔹 What practical changes can we make locally?

As well as a panel discussion, we'll be creating space for attendees to think about ideas and actions to improve support for children and families.

Our SEND Mums Wellbeing Club offers a space to connect with others who really get it, followed by gentle yoga to ground your body and mind. It’s time for you to come in, let your frustrations and worries out, and leave feeling less alone and replenished.

Our SEND dads Takeover is tonight at Mulligans West Vale! Come down and enjoy some free darts, golf sim and good company.

This is Steven.

Steven volunteers to run our SEND Dads group. He loves cycling, craft beer, travel, and his family.

He doesn’t love traditional peer support. He really doesn’t love leading things. He’s ADHD and sometimes gets nervous in groups.

But he shows up every month. And this Thursday, he’s taking over .westvale for a dads’ night out.

Why does he do it? Because this group isn’t like the groups he was worried about.

Come meet Steven. Thursday 21 May, 7–10pm.

What an amazing initiative! Well done to our parent carers who helped on this project 👏🏼

Co-created with patients, carers and our staff, new patient information boards are beginning to appear across our wards over the coming weeks.

The new boards have been designed to give patients, loved ones and our clinical teams more space to record important information. From preferred names and communication needs, to nutrition, hydration, falls risks and the things that will help patients feel comfortable during their stay.

Thank you to everyone who has helped shape this improvement.
