🀍🍝 READY, STEADY, COOK WORKSHOP 🍝🀍

Week 2 of our Ready, Steady, Cook workshops was another huge success, this time with an incredible group of Year 6 students Salterhebble Junior and Infant School

These amazing young people rolled up their sleeves and worked together to prepare and batch cook 40 homemade portions of hearty Spaghetti Bolognese for members of the local community in Halifax

What makes these workshops so special is not just the cooking, but the life skills, compassion and community spirit the children develop along the way. From learning about food allergens, to understanding how food can support people during difficult times, every session is filled with purpose.

The teamwork, kindness and enthusiasm shown by these students was honestly beautiful to witness. They should all be incredibly proud of themselves

The meals were delivered to Christopher David at Light Group Halifax to distribute at their Sunday outreach. Today we asked people attending if they would β€œRate the Plate” for the students… and they received a HUGE thumbs up all round! Which we have fed back to the school to let the students know their meals were enjoyed and truly appreciated.

A massive well done to every student who took part. Every portion was made with love, care and kindness πŸ«‘πŸ…

πŸ€πŸ…πŸ½οΈ COMMUNITY COOKING WITH PURPOSE πŸ«‘πŸ½οΈπŸ€

Last year, prior to stepping down, we were asked by Salterhebble Junior and Infant School to deliver two Ready, Steady, Cook workshops with their Year 5 and Year 6 students as part of an after-school club.

On Friday, we had the pleasure of running the first session with a small group of amazing Year 5 students. These fabulous 9 and 10 year old children came together as a team to help support their local community by preparing homemade tuna pasta bakes that would later help feed members of the community in Halifax

We absolutely love running these workshops because they are about so much more than just cooking. They help children learn:

πŸ₯¦ Food preparation and kitchen safety
πŸ“ How to check ingredients and understand allergens
🍽️ How to correctly label meals
🀝 The importance of community support and helping others
πŸ’š How food can bring people together and make a real difference

The compassion, enthusiasm and teamwork these children showed was absolutely beautiful to witness. Seeing young people wanting to help others and understand the importance of giving back to their community was incredibly heartwarming.

Today, we delivered 40 portions to Christopher David at Light Group Halifax to distribute at their Sunday Outreach.

We would like to say a huge well done to every child that took part, they did an amazing job. Each dish was made with so much love, care and compassion πŸ…πŸ«‘πŸ€

We are sharing this from Calderdale Council Social Media Page, to help raise awareness and to help keep people safe, after they have been made aware of a potential scam on Facebook Marketplace involving rental properties in Calderdale.

Listings are being advertised at lower-than-expected prices, with people asked to pay a deposit upfront to β€˜secure’ the property. In many cases, the property either doesn’t exist, isn’t available, or deposits are being taken from multiple people.

There advice is:
❌ Never pay a deposit without viewing the property in person.
πŸ€” Be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true.
πŸ’° Avoid sending money before verifying the landlord or letting agent.
😏 Trust your instincts, if something feels off, it probably is.

If you think you’ve been targeted or fallen victim to a scam, please report it to Action Fraud at Calderdale Council.

Please also share this post to help protect others in our community, awareness really does make a difference πŸ“£πŸ€

Today we popped in to see our wonderful friends at Calderdale Lighthouse. Over the past 7 years, we’ve had the privilege of collaborating on many projects, working together to support those who need it most in our local community.

Around 12 months ago, we had an event planned which unfortunately couldn’t go ahead due to unforeseen circumstances. We had already prepared themed raffle prizes, with lots of Marvel goodies in each one and we couldn’t think of a more deserving charity to pass them on to.

These will now either be gifted to families and children who need support, or raffled to help raise funds for the incredible work they do.

If you’d like to know more about their services and how you can help, give their page a follow. They truly are a lifeline for so many vulnerable families and children in our community, and these beautiful earth angels really are making such a difference in the lives of others every single day! πŸ’«πŸ€

As the Sunday outreach now continues under new leadership, we would truly appreciate if our followers could help support Chris and his wonderful team of volunteers at Light Group Halifax as they continue this important service for everyone who relies on it each week.

If anyone is able to help by gifting any items from their Amazon wishlist, it would be greatly appreciated. These items are essential supplies used every Sunday to support around 40 people from our community who access help and support each week.

If you are able to help, you can gift these items from their Amazon wishlist here: πŸ‘‡

πŸ€πŸ’«πŸ’Œ A Heartfelt Thank You πŸ’ŒπŸ’«πŸ€

We are so incredibly grateful that over the festive period we received some wonderfully kind and generous financial donations to support our outreach going into the new year. With the announcement of Nat stepping down, we are in the process of handing everything over, including the funds we received.

Although HHCK is not a registered charity, when handling charitable funds we have a duty to pass these on to like-for-like services, in line with Charity Commission guidance. Before stepping down, we took the time to speak with the people we support on Sundays to understand which services they rely on most during the week for ongoing help.

We are pleased to announce that all remaining funds in our account have now been evenly shared between:

Light Group Halifax
Happydays UK
Halifax Community Fridge

Each organisation has received Β£830 to support their ongoing work in the community.

These incredible organisations continue to provide vital support across Calderdale, and we are grateful to be able to contribute to their work on behalf of our community.
A huge thank you again to everyone whose generosity made this possible. πŸ’«πŸ’ŒπŸ€
